ARRIVAL: We give you 2 sets of keys, and a personal pass for each one. It offers skibus for free and many advantages in the resort. SKIERS: the chalet is 90 yards from the skibus stop, direct to Balme and Fernuy ski lifts (0.6 mile away). Put your skis on 70 yards after the chalet, then 0.2 mile of easy skiing until a gentle massif-linking slope "le Var" (visible from the balcony, ask the owner). CROSS COUNTRY SKIING: direct access the plateau of Confins by the same skibus stop (1.2mile). It hosted the world cup 4 times, and furthermore links with the Grand Bornand ski area. Nice possibilities: lovely plateaus of Beauregard and Glieres. SKI TOURING LOVERS: wonderful possibilities (ask the owner). NON-SKIERS: except the resorts very lively atmosphere, some pedestrian routes are marked on groomed snow. Altitude sites have an outstanding beauty, accessible for pedestrians by ski lifts (discount with the guest pass). 3 ski poles and a pair of snowshoes at your disposition, ski locker.

YOU ARE FACING MAJESTUOUS VALLEYS OF BALME, TORCHERE AND FERNUY, in the ski area. They are capped with summits having lovely Savoy names: L'Aiguille De Borderan (8175 feet), La Roualle (8494 feet) ... Beyond those, towards the Pointe Percee (9029 feet), you can get a glimpse of various summits and Virgin valleys, the nature of which being preserved. Here is the hikers? dreamland during summer, when the pleasure of discovering mountain is not wasted yet by the presence of lovely altitude hostels! It is the realm of mountain fauna as well, may it be domestic ("Abondance" cows - who make Reblochon -, goats, sheep) or wild. For the moment, marmots are at the bottom of their tunnels for 6 months, chamois have left their summit areas to take shelter in the nearby spruce forests. Dear off-piste skiers do not enter marked quiet areas: when they are bothered, white hares, tetras and snow partridges waste vital calories they need to last the winter.

INEXPENSIVE SKI HOLIDAYS IN A PLEASANT RESORT: either most of the ski area, or at least the Balme-Fernuy massif nearby are generally skiable until late April (Balme = one of the best altitudes and snow covers in Haute-Savoie, after Mont-Blanc massif). The apartment rate is ...Euros per week from April ... to May ... (260Euros afterwards). Nevertheless, snow is most of the time not as good as between January and March; if Balme massif is the only one to be open, only experienced skiers can enjoy it. But if the snow cover is too low, Chamonix and its high slopes is 1h30 away and tourist possibilities are unlimited in Haute-Savoie, lakes (Annecy 15 miles away, Bourget, Geneva), or Switzerland nearby.

Notes: IN ADDITION OF FEATURES LISTED ABOVE: a raclette grill, a fondue set, a microwave, a squeezer, a whisk, a mixer, washing lines, 10 books (Alps), topographical, road and city maps, 3 stroll and hiking guides. MISCELLANEOUS INFORMATIONS: Your chalet is 0.1 mile to the old Savoy hamlet of Fernuy: very nice 1731 chapel, old shake-roofed farmhouses, sale of reblochons, tomme cheese, milk, butter and eggs. RESORT: La Clusaz manages to keep its Savoy village style while being a very lively resort. All kinds of event (winter sports, welcome reception with mulled wine, night skiing, sound and light show, street performance, children events-fairy tales, parish programme etc.), all leisure activities, services, shops. There are also a snow park, telemark skiing, horse-drawn carriage rides, library, bridge playing, computer area... SAVOY MARKET: On Mondays until 1pm., SNOW COVER: exceptional, since the Aravis mountain range is the first mountainous high barrier for snowy winds.
