Museum of Boat:
In 1978 a group of friends of the Lake of Como founded an association called ‘The Collection of Boats of Lake Como’ with the aim of saving the age-old and noble nautical traditions of their lake. The success of this research exceeded all expectations above all due to the enthusiastic involvement of the people of the lake who responded to this initiative by generously donating boats and relating objects but above all by handing down information and traditions which, all put together, make up one of the most important pages of Lake Como culture. The museum was opened in 1982 and it is fitted out in the rooms of an old spinning factory. The building itself is already of interest because it represents the typical shell of a 19th century factory. Over 160 boats built on the Lake of Como or which have been of particular importance in the Lake's nautical traditions or events can be visited in the 14 rooms of this museum. Territory:
The territory of the Lake of Como is known as Alto Lario. It is an area full of history and nature and with the unspoilt beauty of its landscape; the zone retains a precise identity which distinguishes it from other Como territories. It is a land of antique traditions which has been able to exploit to its best the neighbouring Switzerland and Northern Europe becoming the destination of those who love water and alpine sports. The Alto Lario offers occasions for leisure and personal enrichment for all tastes and needs.
Art and history:
It is historically known as the territory of the Tre Pievi: Gravedona, Dongo and Sorico were the towns which held religious and administrative power. The area was certainly frequented and inhabited during the Roman era. The important route of the Strada Regina became even more strategic between Gravedona and Dongo as traversal one could reach the Sant Jorio mountain pass and then descend to la Mesolcina (where today we find Bellinzona). Signs of the past are still there ready to be studied and deciphered... It is the religious buildings which almost always keep the most visible evidence of the roman age right up to the splendour of the baroque period. In Santa Maria Rezzonico the remains of an ancient fortified enclosure dated around 5th-6th century are still visible. This was used as a barrier, a check-point on lake traffic but also on the mainland along the Via Regina. In Gera Lario we find traces of mosaics probably belonging to a Roman domus.
Golf:
Above Menaggio (at 10 km from the apartment) there is a beautiful 18-hole golf course.
