Villa Antonia, an authentic Sicilian country estate, is an enchanting place. It is beautiful and fragrant with a surrounding garden and among it there is a wonderfully furnished terrace facing the Madonie's. The house is spacious and comfortable. On the ground level, after coming into the entrance hall, there is a large living room with fireplace and separate dining room, a fully furnished kitchen and a bathroom with shower. The terrace is very pleasant for relaxing and dining under the 'pergola'. Upstairs there is a master bedroom with queen-sized bed and en suite bath with tub and shower, a second double bedroom and a twin bedroom, sharing another bathroom with tub and shower. Antiques grace the living rooms and dining room which are stately and elegant without being too formal for country living.

Castelbuono is a handsome mountain town chosen by the Ventimiglia of Geraci as their new domicile in 1316. They built themselves an austere castle in 1438, lightened up with stucco decorations in the chapel, believed to be by Giacomo Serpotta. Pretty Piazza Margherita has a fountain and a Renaissance Church, the Matrice Vecchia with a marble ciborium or canopy over the altar, enthroning a polyptych by Antonello da Messina's nephew, Antonello de Saliba. The 13th Century San Francesco with is Gothic portal was built as the Ventimiglia funerary chapel.

From your villa you can make an easy day trip to Palermo and its fascinating market places, museums and churches or to nearby Cefalu with its twelfth century Norman Cathedral or to Taormina with its magnificent views, charming narrow streets and an ancient Greek theatre. A visit to the Eolian Islands also makes an interesting day trip. After a day of adventures, a snack of fresh bread, local cheese and a bottle of wine awaiting you on the terrace can be quite all right in itself.

Enjoy the best food in the area: Some of the best food in the area is served in the several notable restaurants located in the centre of Castelbuono or on the outskirts of the town which have typical Sicilian dishes and especially good pizza or the local mushrooms in season. Don't miss the local dessert called 'testa di turco' (Turk's head), a delightful fried pastry made in the most restaurants in the area.

Villa Antonia lives up to its billing as a charming 19th century villa.
We had a wonderful time at Villa Antonia. The villa is beautifully maintained. It is surprisingly roomy, yet cozy. The bedrooms and bathrooms are large and comfortable. The furnishings throughout the villa are extraordinary with delightful paintings and interesting antiques. Senora Mercanti is a gracious and thoughtful hostess who even took the time to help us try to track down our relatives in Sciacca.
Castlebuono is a great, scenic little town. Once you get used to the hills you'll find it to be a fine base to explore Sicily. The Madonie Mountains are gorgeous and there are many hiking opportunities.
You are less than a hour away from the fine seaside resort of Cefalu and Palermo is less than two hours away. Be sure to visit Monreale. Castelbuono is a friendly town with nice shops and fine restaurants. Don't miss visiting the Castle.
We had a great week at Villa Antonia and recommend it.

Villa Antonia is just like the review you can read and so nice is also Castelbuono and its countryside. The near beaches are free and water is clean. In the Madonie mountains there are a lot of nature paths and it is possible to track and ride horses.

Wunderschöne Ferien

Wir waren nun schon das zweite Mal in der "Villa Antonia" und waren wieder begeistert. Das Haus ist original eingerichtet. Dadurch hat es ein besonderes Flair. Es bietet genug Platz, hat drei Schladräume und drei Bäder bzw. Toiletten.
Kaum zu beschreiben ist der Ausblick am Abend, wenn das Städtchen Castelbuono angestrahlt ist und in weiter Ferne Paulina und San Mauro leuchten.
Der mit alten Steinen gepflasterte Hof lädt zum Sonnenbaden ein bzw. zum Frühstücken oder Lesen.
Die Küche ist perfekt eingerichtet, alt und doch modern.
Im Wohnzimmer steht ein Kamin bereit, um sich die Abende gemütlich zu machen. Es gibt Lesesessel und noch einen großen Tisch, der sich gut für Gesellschaftsspiele eignet.
Man hat das Gefühl, mitten unter den Menschen zu leben.
Das gilt auch, wenn man in die Stadt geht. Die Menschen sind nett und freundlich. Der Weg in die Stadt ist etwas beschwerlich, weshalb unbedingt ein Auto zu empfehlen ist.
Mit dem Auto lassen sich schnell Ausflüge in die Umgebung machen.
Das Meer ist zwar zu sehen, liegt aber doch in einiger Entfernung. Aber man ist in 30 min am schönen Strand nahe Céfalu.
WIr haben uns rundum wohlgefühlt und können die Villa Antonia nur empfehlen.

Ein sizilianischer Traum

Wir waren im Oktober 2009 zum zweiten Mal in der Villa Antonia und hoffen, eines Tages wiederzukommen. Das Haus ist ein Traum für Kunstliebhaber und Freunde von ursprünglicher sizilianischer Athmosphäre. Bestens ausgestattet und liebevoll und wohnlich eingerichtet sind das Haus und der Garten eine Oase. Unbeschreiblich der abendliche Blick auf den angestrahlten Ort, das Castel und die lichtflimmernden Bergdörfer Pollina und San Mauro. In Castelbuono ist man nicht Tourist, sondern gehört dazu. In Panificio, den Alimentaris und Restaurants ist für regionale Köstlichkeiten gesorgt. Die Landschaft ist gut zum Wandern geeignet und selbst bis Süd-Sizilien sind Tagesausflüge kein Problem. Danke Antonia!

Villa Antonia è situata in una zona panoramica di Castelbuono. La Villa ha un bel giardino curato e una bellissima terrazza con vista panoramica del paese.
La casa è molto comoda con bei mobili antichi e spaziosa per una famiglia numerosa.
La patrona di casa è molto gentile è noi siamo rimasti contenti.
A la prossima occassione saremo felici di ritornare alla Villa Antonia.
