La Florette is a long, spacious, two-storey country house in the Minervois plain near the river Aude, between Carcassonne & Narbonne. You have the exclusive private swimming pool (11x5ms) not overlooked, with paddling-pool. Spread yourselves on the mature lawn, terrace, gardens back and front, playing field - there's a swing and plenty of space for children's play. Dine or barbecue outside in the evenings under a pergola and overhead lighting. There are 2 double, 3 twin bedrooms - no bunks or sofabeds. You have a separate dining-room and kitchen, the latter being well equipped with washing-machine, dishwasher, 4-ring double-oven cooker, microwave, fridge-freezer and all necessary utensils. Relax in the large living-room with its lovely beamed ceiling, satellite TV, DVD player, hundreds of books in English. The house has oil-fired central heating. Excellent decor, furnishings, equipment & standards of comfort throughout. For security, you have big lockable gates and ample parking space.

La Florette is on two floors, sleeping 10 people + cot in five bedrooms. Ground floor: large living-room (satellite TV, DVD/CD player, radio/CD/cassette, many books in English, comfortable seating, telephone, stone fireplace); separate dining-room both with beamed ceilings; large double bedroom; well equipped kitchen with 4-plate electric cooker, fridge, freezer, microwave, dishwasher; washing-machine. The back door leads to the rear garden, patio, whirligig, barbecue & outside dining table; WC. 1st. floor: three twin bedrooms, one double with en suite shower. Bathroom with bath, shower & bidet. Shower room. 2 WC’s. The dining-room's porte-fenetres lead to the broad south-facing terrace with barbecue, lawn with swing, mature trees, swimming pool (11x5ms) with paddling-pool, and field for ball games. There is a lovely outside dining area under the pergola and outside lighting. Ample parking behind large lockable gates. A cot is provided. Push-chairs and a high chair are available.

La Florette is 100 yards from the river Aude in the Minervois plain, 8 miles east of Carcassonne. The small village of Floure offers only the superb restaurant, Chateau de Floure, for that special night out. Your shops and supermarkets are in Trebes, 2 miles away. Carcassonne must be seen - the second most visited place outside Paris, the largest medieval fortified city in Europe with its ramparts and battlements, cathedral and basilica. You can take boat trips along the Canal du Midi from Trebes or Carcassonne - idyllic to glide under the plane trees with your hamper and white wine! Motorway access is 3 miles away, so it's a quick, easy drive to the Mediterranean beaches at Gruissan or Narbonne Plage. The house looks towards the Corbieres hills, wild and worthy of exploration. Carcassonne airport is 10 miles by autoroute. Cathar castles abound in the area, recalling its sanguinary history. Wonderful walking in the Montagne Noire to the north or in the Corbieres.   • The swimming pool will be closed between November and April inclusive. An extra charge of £50 p.w. will be made for the use of the swimming pool in May or October.
  • While electricity and central heating costs are covered by the cost of the let in late spring, summer and early autumn, special arrangements apply at other times. Please consult the owners. Since the cleaning costs are about the same for 1-week as for 2-week bookings, there will be a £20 surcharge for single-week bookings.
  • Linen and towels are provided free, but please bring your own towels for sun-bathing, for the swimming-pool or for the beach.

Notes: La Florette is wheelchair accessible and one bedroom is on the ground floor and close to a WC and wash-basin. But the main bathroom and showers are on the first floor. Wood burning in the living-room fireplace is not effective and not recommended. Our caretaker offers trips in his boat on the Canal du Midi at a reduced price, obviously at your own risk. A trip on the Canal is a 'must'. A very good English friend in the local estate-agency business offers to meet visitors and advise them about the legal and financial processes, hazards to avoid, the trends in the market etc., all without commitment on either side - an act of goodwill. Worth taking up if your French is not too good. The travel journal in the house will tell you of others' experiences and recommendations - please add your contributions (especially children's).

Cleaning and keys.: The house will be clean when you arrive, but no further cleaning will be done for you during your stay. You may ask our cleaner to do an interim clean at your own expense and risk. You will note that we do not ask for a damage deposit. Instead, we trust our visitors to respect the property and leave it as clean and tidy as they can. Before you leave home, we shall send you one key which will let you into the house via the kitchen. You return it to us at the end of your holiday. You will find plenty more keys in the house itself. Let us know if you are arriving in more than one group and therefore need more keys. Visitors are asked to arrive after 4.00 p.m. and leave before 10.00 a.m. The house has a Travel Journal to which you are invited to contribute your experiences and recommendations.

Sport and recreation.: There are good golf and tennis facilities in Carcassonne, only a short drive away. A friend has offered to introduce our visitors to the beautiful golf course at Carcassonne. Boats on the Canal du Midi can be hired self-drive by the day or longer, or join one of the many commercial trips. It is very pleasant to walk or cycle aong the tow-path. There are many lakes in the Montagne Noire, near Homps, Cavayere near Carcassonne and Montbel near Chalabre. Try kyaking, rafting & canoeing at La Boulal, Alairac & further upstream on the R. Aude between Quillan and Axat. Excellent walking in the Corbieres and Montagne Noire. Get away from the main roads and cycle through the vineyards - very quiet, varied and easy. Your nearest beaches are at Gruissan and Narbonne Plage. There are many Cathar castles to visit, especially in the Corbieres hills to the south of Floure. Carcassonne is the largest fortified medieval city in Europe, a very special place. Its 'new town' offers all sports facilities.
