Photos and Description of this Aveyron holiday house

An old silk factory, a Magnanerie, was transformed in the early 1920s into a pleasant residence of character; it has been upgraded recently. The house, being situated on the side of a hill, consists of two independent living quarters; one is on the garden level, the other above, on the main floor level. The oldest part of the house has a large attic whose ceiling carpentry is that of an upside-down boat hull. A large South-East facing balcony provides a beautiful view of the Tarn valley and the rocky cliffs of the Causse Noir, the plateau opposite the house. In the early evening, one can see the setting sun turn the cliffs ochre and pink. The house is situated in a small formal park with a pine tree grove and much space for children?s games, such as badminton and hide and seek. For swimming, the Tarn River and its pebble beach are 10 minutes away by foot. Behind the house, you will have immediate access to hiking trails of the Causse de Sauveterre.

You will be in the middle of the Regional National Parc of the Grands Causses (the rugged plateaux surrounding the Tarn river valley and canyon). The region is interesting for both its cultural and natural riches. The Roman pottery excavations, the fine leather manufacturing, the local wine and sheep or goat cheese is matched by the unusual geology of the mountainous region allowing hiking, hang gliding, rock rappelling, caving, canoeing and kayaking. Because of its remote nature, the area?s flora and fauna is unusually rich. The house is situated at the beginning of the Gorges du Tarn between Aguessac and Riviere sur Tarn, at 10 kilometers from Millau. (Millau is the site of Norman Foster?s extraordinary new Viaduc de Millau bridge.) Also at 10 kilometers distance is the Jonte river valley known for good hiking and viewing wild vultures. Attached to the house outside are a bathroom and a separate toilet. On the garden level: a very large livingdining room with kitchen and fire place, one bedroom with double bed and bath room and one bedroom with two twin beds and bath room. The toilet is separate.
