A stones throw from the beach and only a five minute walk to the friendly 18 hole golf course: The Beach House is located on the 'deuxième ligne' (2nd row of houses) from the sea front, in the heart of Agon Coutainville, a well known coastal village. Only 3 hrs from Paris, it's a popular spot for the Parisians, some keeping holiday homes here for generations. Built around the turn of the century, the house is on 3 floors and decorated in shabby chic East Coast style. The main living area is on the first floor; open plan with sitting room, dining area and galley kitchen. The terrace is great for outside dining with a built-in barbecue, ideal for those long summer evenings. The house has a lovely atmosphere and is enjoyed by all generations. On your doorstep is the village square; restaurants, shops, markets and much more. In summer the local tourist office organises activities for all. Agon Coutainville is situated on the west coast of the Normandy peninsular, with views out to the Channel Islands and Chausey archipelago. About an hour from Cherbourg and 1 1/2 hr from Caen, it is easy to reach. Well placed for cultural outings to Mont Saint Michel, the Normandy landing beaches or the Bayeux Tapestry, or even the shopping and Christian Dior museum in Granville, or a day trip to Jersey or perhaps you would prefer to wander through the Marais, or bicycle through country lanes and explore along the seafront. There is no need to do anything - just relax into a different pace of life - go to the twice weekly market for local oysters and mussels, take in a coffee or two at a beachside cafe-bar.

The house is decorated with brocante objects and furniture found at local antique fairs and shops. Children welcome - no real antiques!

Golf: The house is about a 5 minute walk to Coutainville golf club. A particularly friendly club with regular competitions most weekends. All handicaps welcome. Prize giving Sunday. The club has a bar and good restaurant open to the public. There are many lovely golf courses and we are well placed for both Normandy and Brittany. Some examples: Golf de Omaha Beach- 27 holes - spectacular course. Golf de Granville, Golf de Saint Malo, Golf Club des Ormes and many more. Email for list and web sites.

Great for families. Stunning beaches.

I wanted to take the time to write this review as this property and its location really are special.
The property is decorated in a simple but very pretty nautical style with lovely touches everywhere. The sitting room especially is really comfortable and pleasant. The beds were all very comfortable and there was every convenience including wi fi - imperative for my teenage sons! We had some great family games of table tennis in the room downstairs and cooked some lovely meals using the local food especially the charcuterie from the local store, Lombards.

The town has the most beautiful beaches and we walked up and down the path by the beaches every day - my kids NEVER walk anywhere at home!!! The weather was amazing and we stayed on the beach till dark collecting shells and building castles. Perfect. We visited Mont St Michel and the D-Day beaches and museums but frankly, it was just enough to hang out at the house /beach. We stayed in the Autumn but there was still lots to do in the area. I think in the summer it would be a great place for kids of all ages.

The house is very well situated a 30sec walk from the beach and the town square and there are some lovely food stores near by. Debbie and James were very helpful and I would really recommend this place and house for a holiday. It is only 1 hour from Cherbourg and having done the Brittany rentals - why travel that extra distance! These beaches were the best! Thanks again,

Charming, Large, and Perfect for a Group

We spent a week in September at the beach house and it was just wonderful. Our group consisted of 4 different couples, plus two children, and the layout of the house couldn't have been better; eveyone had their own space.The fact that the beach was literally 20 feet away in one direction, and the boulangerie 20 feet in the other, made it all the nicer. Debbie was great and took care of all of our needs. Coutainville is a lovely spot and close enough to lots of different things to keep everyone entertained.

Wir waren nun schon drei Mal bei Debbie und James zu Gast und werden sicher wiederkommen! Wir haben uns in diesem stilvoll eingerichteten Haus vom ersten Moment an wohl gefühlt. Dank dem grosszügigen Platzangebot und den Rückzugsmöglichkeiten fühlt sich auch die grosse Familie wohl, und dank der gut sortierten DVD-Sammlung und den vielen Bestsellern (überwiegend englisch) haben wir auch Regentage mit Musse und Entspannung genossen. Und wenn die Sonne scheint (was diesen Sommer zum Glück oft der Fall war) zieht man die Badehose an und ist in 20 Schritten am Wasser (ausser bei Ebbe, dann sind es viele Schritte mehr). Die kilometerlangen, sauberen Dünenstrände der Pointe d'Agon bieten Privatsphäre und das Meer mit den Gezeiten und Muscheln im Überfluss lässt nie Langeweile aufkommen.
"La Cale", das in einem kurzschen Spaziergang dem Meer entlang erreicht wird, bietet die frischesten Austern und Miesmuscheln, die man sich wünschen kann. Absolut sehenswert sind neben dem Mont Saint Michel die Landungsstrände. Aber ehrlich gesagt - wir haben uns diesen Sommer in drei Wochen nicht mehr als fünf Kilometer vom Haus entfernt.
Wir können das Strandhaus allen empfehlen, die gerne mit Stil wohnen und genügend Platz haben möchten, die einen Urlaub geniessen möchten, der alle Sinne anspricht.
Debbie und James sind herzliche, warme, unaufdringliche Gastgeber, die jederzeit mit Rat und Tat - und wenn nötig mit Hammer und Zange - zur Seite stehen und für die Gastfreundschaft kein leerer Begriff ist.
