This is a beautiful and extremely spacious traditional Catalan Masia (farmhouse), located in the valley above Sa Riera bay, only a 10 minute walk to the beach. It is almost unique to find a Masia such as this so close to the coast and the local area, 'Mas Mato', is named after this house. You can reach Begur in 5 minutes by car. It has a private pool in a lovely secluded garden at the rear of the house, with a large parking lot for 3 cars at the front of the house. Upstairs, there are 3 large bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and a huge lounge with sofa bed, plus sun terrace with views of Begur castle and the valley. Downstairs, the entrance hall leads to a fully equipped kitchen, a vaulted TV lounge, a vaulted dinning room and a shaded terrace overlooking the pool and garden. The thick stone walls keep the house deliciously cool in summer and wonderfully warm during the winter.

Begur is the jewel of the Costa Brava. The medieval hilltop fishing village with its castle is surrounded by pine-clad hills that shelter gorgeous small coves with golden sand and crystal clear blue water. Most bays have small hotels and restaurants where the classic Mediterranean lunch of grilled sardines and salad should be eaten, washed down with cold pink (rosat) wine. The surrounding Baix Emporda landscape is extremely varied: agricultural countryside, forests, mountains and rivers, with many historic towns and villages to explore. Almost any leisure activity imaginable is possible within the vicinity, from the more usual pursuits of walking, cycling, horse riding and golf to the more extremes of para-gliding and sky-diving at Empuria-brava (40 km). All water sports, from scuba-diving to yacht sailing, are available at locations close by along the coast. For the evening, Begur and the surrounding area have restaurants, bars and clubs to suit all tastes.
