Sete is a very popular port town located on the Mediterranean. Known as the "Venice of Languedoc" , it has numerous canals running through it, an in-land lake to one side and the Mediterranean to the other.
Beautiful beaches (with restaurants open from Easter to October) within a few minutes of the town, theatres (including the open air Theatre de la Mer), museums (George Brassens, Paul Valéry and modern art), markets (Wednesday and Friday mornings), tours of the fish market, the inland lake and the canals of Sete. Blessed with over 300 days of sunshine each year, and the "blue flag" status, the beaches of the region are amongst the best in France.
The large tuna boats are beautiful to watch as they return to port in the afternoons with clouds of seagulls trailing after them.
Sete also hosts numerous music festivals including the Jazz festival in the open air theatre, the Worldwide Music Festival on the beaches.
