Also within easy reach are the towns of Lochgilphead and Oban. About the area: The village of Kilmartin lies at the heart of Kilmartin Glen, one of the most important prehistoric locations on the Scottish mainland. Within 6 miles there are rock carvings, burial cairns, standing stones and the remains of the Iron-Age fort at Dunadd, home to the first kings of Scotland. The village of Kilmartin offers a church, post office, shop, pub, two castles and the Kilmartin House Museum with visitor centre next door, which houses a cafe and a local crafts shop. The town of Lochgilphead, 8 miles away, offers an excellent selection of cafes and small shops selling a range of goods, foods and crafts, while within driving distance is the village of Inveraray, home to the Duke and Duchess of Argyll.
