Enlarged and beautified over the centuries, the medieval heart remains and a 200 acre deer park and walled garden and add to the splendour. Staindrop provides interesting shops, cafes and pubs set round its long village green. 5 miles away is the bustling market town of Barnard Castle, with its castle, the Bowes Museum, and of course its wide range of shops and tea-rooms. Walkers will enjoy the abundance of walks around Teesdale.
