Piercebridge is a pretty village with a superb village green, wonderful village pubs and an organic farm shop is situated on the Teesdale border, next to the river Tees, only 10 miles east of Barnard Castle. This lovely village is famous for its Roman heritage, dating back to around 70 AD. The Piercebridge Roman Fort Site, a recognised ancient monument, forms part of the Dere Street Roman Trail, a celebration of the rich Roman heritage still enjoyed in the area. This is a walker's paradise as it forms part of the Teesdale Way, and within easy reach of the Cleveland Way, providing an excellent base for walkers and cyclists to explore this beautiful Dales area including Swaledale and Weardale nearby, with many footpaths, bridleways, cycle trails and superb riverside walks available. There are many local attractions such as the magnificent Raby Castle in Staindrop, Durham Cathedral, the Bowes Museum, Yorks National Railway Museum and not forgetting the fantastic market town of Barnard Castle.
