The pleasant old village of Orton nestles in a private location on the eastern fringe of the Lake District National Park. Together with its better-known neighbours of Kendal, Sedbergh and Appleby-in-Westmorland, the area is bordered by lovely rolling countryside and stunning scenery. Above the village lies Orton Scar, a limestone hill, used back in the day to warn the village of Scottish raiders and famous today with walkers. The village centre boasts a local pub serving good food, a Post Office/shop, tearooms and the popular handmade chocolate shop and tearoom. A pretty village green bordered by 17th and 18th Century cottages adds to its magic and there is a farmers' market in the village square on the second Saturday of every month. Take a short drive and discover the unspoilt lake of Haweswater - residence to the only pair of nesting Golden Eagles in England, or take advantage of the superb road links to the Eden Valley, Lake District, and the Yorkshire Dales. Amenities: Full electric heating throughout, underfloor heating on 1st floor and additional heating from woodburner & gas stove in open-plan living area. Electric oven, gas hob, microwave, fridge/freezer, washer/dryer, heated boot rack, widescreen TV, DVD, CD/radio, small library of books etc. Fuel, power & starter pack for woodburner inc. in rent. Bed linen & towels inc. in rent. Cot and highchair. Roadside parking for two cars. Small garden with BBQ at ground floor level leading to raised (first floor level) decked area with furniture (bike storage under deck). Sorry, no pets and no smoking. Shop and pub 2 minutes walk
