Today, there is a market every Thursday, an ideal opportunity for visitors to explore the good variety of distinctive shops in the town, or the various 17th and 18th Century buildings which are still standing. This section of the Lune Valley was a favourite haunt of the artist Turner, and was made famous by Ruskin - his "view" of the valley is still magnificent. Spanning the river is the medieval Devil's Bridge, and the peaceful country lanes are perfect for exploring by bike, car or even horse. Nearby there are three golf courses, as well as riding, tennis, fishing and an abundance of riverside and country walks, making this area an ideal location for a break, whatever time of the year.
