Croesor is the starting point for climbing Cnicht, a pyramid shaped mountain, and the Moelwyn mountain range. Sarn Helen, a Roman road, goes north west to Beddgelert through Nantmor and the Aberglaslyn Pass, and south east over the shoulder of the Moelwyns to Tan-y-Bwlch and the narrow gauge Ffestiniog Railway, with steam trains to Porthmadog and Blaenau Ffestiniog. The garden at Plas Brondanw (less than 2 miles away) is open to the public; this was the home of Clough Williams-Ellis, the architect of Port Merion, which is 5 miles away. A short drive away are the beach at Morfa Bwchan (Black Roack Sands), castles including Criccieth, Harlech and Caernarfon, slate quarries at Blaenau Ffestiniog, a copper mine near Beddgelert and many other attractions.

Lovely cottage in a remote location

Croesor really is miles from any where, but is a great location for walking holidays. There are two dogs who live in the village, one who tries to convince you he is scary, and the other who if he likes you will follow you everywhere - he sat outside the cottage for 1 hour after going on a walk with us around the village.The scenery is spectacular, with mountains everywhere you look. Take care to pick the right road coming into the village as one is particularly scary with 4 gates to stop and open on the way up. The other is a narrow lane with passing places, but perfectly acceptable.

The cottage itself has everything you you need, including a dishwasher and washing machine. The high light for the kids was the open fire place as this is the first one they have seen. It has a modern bathroom, small kitchen and nice comfortable bedrooms with plenty of drawer space to keep your holiday clothes. The owner has laid on plenty to keep you entertained in the evenings, including basic Sky tv, dvd player, videos and a cupboard full of children's games.

Personally I would happily go back next year, but the kids did ask if we could go somewhere a bit closer to a town - Porthmadog is the closest town and it takes quite a while to get there because of the windy roads in between.
