Photos and Description of this Landrake holiday cottage 18th Century Barn, converted into 4 cottages, sleeping between 2 & 6 people.

Markwell Farm is situated about 1.5 miles from Landrake village and the A38. Easily accessible, it is reached just 5 miles after crossing the River Tamar at Plymouth. Its quiet location affords superb views over rolling countryside with the spectacular St Germans viaduct and the River Tiddy as its centrepiece. The farm, which is 400 acres, has suckler cows and a large sheep flock as well as growing arable crops. Of course there are also a collection of dogs, cats, ponies and pet lambs to greet you and make friends with. Two 18th century barns have been tastefully converted into 4 cottages each sleeping between 2 and 6 people. Offering high quality, self-catering accommodation in a tranquil location but within easy reach of the best that Cornwall has to offer. Children are welcome and we can accept dogs in some of the cottages. While it is a commercially run farm, features have been enhanced to ensure that visitors are able to enjoy their stay to the full. Find Markwell Farm on Google.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Landrake, United Kingdom

Markwell Farm: Visitors are encouraged to walk round the farm and enjoy the views and the animals. There is plenty of space for children to play. Look out for the Buzzards and the Badgers, listen for the owls at night. For most of the year there is furniture and bar-b-ques outside the cottages for you to sit and enjoy, along with a sand pit and toys for the children to play with.

Beaches: South East Cornwall enjoys some lovely sandy beaches. From the small villages of Kingsand and Cawsand to the rock pools of Downderry and Seaton. At low tide there is a large stretch of sand at Whitsand Bay, though the walk back up is a bit steep. Looe combines the beach for the children with the shops and wonderful cream teas.

Finding us: We can be found on any major search engine where you can also access our live webcam.

Golf: We are less than 5 miles from the internationally renown St Mellion club which has 2 18 hole courses. The China Fleet Club is about 4 miles away. Looe, Launceston, Lostwithial and Whitsand Bay are all a short drive away.

Other Activities: clay pigeon shooting, dry skiing, health club/gym, canoeing, boat trips & sea fishing

Fantastic week at The Granary

E R Exmouth
Review Submitted: August 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
We found The Granary at Markwell Farm was everything we had expected and more besides. Its tucked away position feels a million miles from civilisation whilst actually being very accessible from the major routes into Cornwall and from Plymouth.
On arrival the cottage was beautifully clean and comfortably furnished and the Cream Tea set out for us was just the perfect start to our holiday!
Our hosts were welcoming, helpful and we loved being free to explore the farm and meet the animals.
We would have no hesitation in recommending The Granary to our friends and family. Not least because it also provided the perfect base to explore much of Cornwall. As a young family we particularly enjoyed a day at Looe - park in the large car park over the bridge where you'll find picnic tables, pedaloes, a great kids playground and toilets. From there it's only a short walk into Looe itself and to the lovely beach and you haven't had to brave the narrow streets in the car.
We also enjoyed the Monkey Sanctuary - fab Vegetarian Restaurant/Cafe - and lunch at the very picturesque Charlestown. The Eden project is also close enough to be a must see if you haven't been before but beware the crowds in high season. Having said all that, one of our favourite outings was the walk from The Granary through the fields and down to the river.
All in all, we really enjoyed our stay, the kids loved the freedom to roam safely around the farm and we can't wait to go back again next year.

Wonderful Family Holiday

Girish London
Review Submitted: August 9, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
We had a wonderful holiday at Markwell Farm. The location is beautiful - very secluded in the midst of a 400 acre farm. We were welcomed with a cream tea, that was a well thought of touch. My children loved the animals - dogs, sheep, calves, horses and the shetland pony. The village has a small but welcoming pub and the farm is a short drive from Looe, which is a very family friendly beach. There are plenty of other attractions in the area - Whitsand Bay beach, Aquarium at Plymouth and Seaton Beach, to name a few. Other highlights of the holiday were walking across the fields to the river Tiddy, a visit to the boat club at St. Germans and the homemade raft race from Seaton to Downderry finishing with a barbecue. Alison, Matthew and their three children were great hosts.

Our first stay in Cornwall

Hoobie Wurzen, Germany
Review Submitted: August 14, 2008 Date of Stay: July 2008
After a very long (1.400 km) drive we reached the Markwell Farm. Our expectations in Cornwall were high, because we watched many films (based on novels from Rosamunde Pilcher) in the german television. The landscape, the buildings and the weather (only one raining day in two weeks!) were very good. The cottage was clean, well equipped for self catering and so quiet (far away from the main road, you hear only the noises of the farm animals). The location is perfect to start short trips to many sights, especially the Eden Project, Lanhydrock House and beautyful gardens. But we missed the old steam engines on the railway. There are only a few days you can enjoy it. Allison and her family gave us very helpful advices during our stay. We tasted the famous Cornish Cream Tea with selfmade scones at the first time on the arrival day. Delicious, we had Cream Tea very often during our holiday in Cornwall. Our daughter enjoyed riding on Joe on the last day. Two weeks are not enough for exploring Cornwall, we will certainly visit the region once again.
