2 bedroom gite in the heart of sunny Charente-Maritime, sleeps up to 5

L'Etable is part of a restored farmhouse in the heart of the sunny Charente. This particular gite was originally part of the stables attached to the farmhouse. Tastefully restored L'Etable provides roomy, comfortable accommodation for up to 5 people and shares a large pool with two other gites. L'Etable is on the outskirts of the village of le Pouzat which is only ten minutes drive from the lovely, old town of St Jean D'Angely.

For parties of more than five, for instance two families, we also have L'Ecurie next door which also sleeps five.

L'Etable is very similiar to L'Ecurie next door. It has a roomy open-plan kitchen/dining/sitting room with washing machine, dishwasher, fridge/freezer, gas haob and oven, tv/dvd player, hi-fi and comfortable sofa.

There is a double master bedroom with ensuite bathroom, wash basin and wc. The second bedroom sleeps three and has an ensuite shower room with wash basin.

There are excellent restaurants in the vicinity as well as a number of good markets and some really pretty villages to visit, including Loulay, Saint-Jean D’Angely, Saintes, and Cognac. Oleron is about 90 minutes away and has a stunning beach set amongst the pine forests. About an hour away is the award winning zoo at Royan, which is brilliant and ranks high for child friendly days out. Poitiers, Futuroscope is about 75 minutes away and is well worth a visit. Other attractions include Fort Boyard, the zoo at la Foret de Chize and the beautiful beach at Chatelaillon-Plage. Aulnay is around 20 minutes away and has a Forest which is great for walking and cycling, but the town also boasts shops, bars, restaurants, supermarket, markets, and an historic Romanesque Church. The historic town of Angouleme, and the market town of Chef Boutonne are both about an hour away.

The property is around 40 minutes from beautiful beaches, including La Rochelle.

Location: The property is ideally situated for a wide range of leisure activities and site-seeing opportunities, but also for a family holiday, with beaches and other facilities within easy reach. The gite is around 40 mins from beautiful beaches, including the lovely Royan. La Rochelle, is unmissable for shopping, dining and visiting the state of the art Aquarium. The area is rich in Roman art with historic churches, villages and towns. Cognac, home to the famous cognac houses of Martell, Hennessy and Reme Martin, as well as an 18 hole golf course and boating, is in easy reach. Angouleme the major town of Charente is only 45 minutes away. Saintes is about 30 minutes away and offers plenty of culture for the beach weary, boasting Roman remains and an amphitheatre. There’s also the opportunity of riverside lunches and boat trips. Bordeaux is within easy reach (90mins) and there are several beautiful islands to see, including the picture postcard Isle De Re (110mins).

Just a note to say how much we enjoyed our stay at Le Pouzat, despite the weather which was a bit changeable!
I'd also like to say how welcoming and helpful Tony and Erica were. They did everything they could to make sure our stay was as enjoyable as possible.
