Casa San Jose - in the heart of historic Altea:
The picturesque town of Altea looks to the sea from one of the most beautiful beaches on the Mediterranean. Steeped in history, over the centuries it has welcomed (or been conquered by) Iberians, Romans, Moors and Christians, all of whom have contributed to the special culture of these coastal lands. To get acquainted with Altea, you should leave your watch behind you, and roam the streets at your leisure. Stepping out of Casa San Jose and turning right takes you to the Church Square - the focal point of the Old Town, and home to the landmark blue and white dome of the 'Virgen del Consuelo' church, which can be seen from miles around. From here you can meander down to the seafront by any of the network of cobbled streets lined with whitewashed houses, many of which are adorned with bougainvillaea and jasmine. The commercial part of the town, with it's market, Town Hall and many shops is situated in the streets behind the palm-tree lined seafront, home to a multitude of restaurants.
Something for everyone:
Although most of our guests seem more than content to while away the day relaxing by Casa San Jose's pool, and enjoying the wide variety of plants and trees in the Moorish Garden, there are a multitude of things to do in the surrounding area. Due to Altea's cultural status (it is home to the University of Fine Arts) there are dozens of art galleries and antique and craft shops, selling items unique to the area. As well as the many sports on offer, there are also many attractions for children (and the young at heart) including the Aqualandia Waterpark, Mundomar Dolphinarium and Terra Mitica - Spain's largest Theme Park - all within 20mins drive. City life in Alicante (45mins) and Valencia (1hr15mins) is offset by the stunning Costa Blanca mountain scenery, home to the ancient monastery village of Guadalest, and many towns and villages to explore. Whatever you are looking for, Altea and the surrounding area has it in abundance.
