This is an ideal base from which to visit Cornwall’s attractions, the Eden project, Lost Gardens of Heligan and the fishing villages of Looe and Polperro. There are many National Trust houses (Anthony house, Cothele to name just a few). The Mount Edgecombe house and estate provide glorious views across the River Tamar to Plymouth. For those who enjoy walking, the coast path passes through Downderry. Fishing (fly, coarse at nearby Bakes lakes & sea mainly at Looe), golf and diving.
HMS Scylla in Whitsand Bay has created the UK‘s first artificial reef. Across the River Tamar via the Torpoint ferry or Tamar Bridge is Plymouth, home to the National Aquarium, historic Barbican and Plymouth City for shopping.
The Theatre Royal brings new productions to Plymouth in the autumn and winter months.
