Montcuq has on of the 100 best markets in France, every Sunday morning. It also offers all local shops and services with a selection of good restaurants and bars. Larger shops are found at Cahors, where you can visit the outstandingly beautiful medieval bridge Pont Valentré, and take a boat trip up the river Lot to St Cirq Lapopie. This area of Quercy Blanc is known for its vineyards, sunflowers and striking pigeonniers (dovecotes) with buildings made from the local white limestone. It abounds in gastronomic delights and a tasting tour is highly recommended - for example you can find prunes, strawberries, asparagus, duck products, honey, biscuits and wine, to name but a few. There are numerous places of historic interest and stunning scenery to enjoy on day trips. The Lot is much quieter and more unspoiled than the nearby Dordogne and still has an essentially French character, with quiet roads but a lively culture.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Lot, France

Berty is on the outskirts of the hamlet of Rouillac, known for its 12th century frescoes in the chapel. Situated on the pilgrims route of St Jaques de Compostela, this area is wonderful for walking, hiking and biking or just for enjoying nature. Our organic garden is very wildlife-friendly with numerous birds and butterflies. The gite with its lovely Quercy stone walls, was once a barn and has been converted to provide comfortable accommodation for any time of the year. Cool in summer and cosy in winter, it is comfortably furnished and superbly equipped, with wonderful views over the gardens and the surrounding countryside, with fields of sunflowers, corn and melons. All on one level, the gite has its own entrance on to the garden. Bedroom 1 has a 5' double bed and ensuite bathroom. Bedrooms 2 and 3 have twin beds and a shared bathroom. The larger bedroom can sleep 3 if needed, with the addition of another full size single bed. A baby cot can also be provided.

The open plan living room has a modern fully equipped kitchen and comfortable lounge and dining areas. The floodlit swimming pool (11m * 7m) with roman steps is for the exclusive use of our guests. It is fenced and has self closing gates, making it ideal for families with young children. The pool has a solar heating system, keeping it warm enough to swim from April to October. The owners live in the attached farmhouse and are on hand to unobtrusively maintain and care for the pool and gardens and to assist you in any way that will make your holiday more enjoyable. Whilst Toulouse is the nearest airport, Bergerac, Carcassonne and Rodez are all within 2 hours drive.

The perfect family holiday in South-West France

Review Submitted: October 30, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2009
After spending weeks trawling the internet for that all allusive French holiday home (the one in the perfect location, reasonably-priced and with all facilities laid on) this was the only gite that 'ticked all our boxes'.

The graceful owners, Graham and Belinda were on-hand to provide unobtrusive help during our stay and the gite was fully equipped with absolutely everything thoroughly thought about in order to provide for the most relaxing holiday. The very generous welcome pack was most appreciated (as we arrived late on Saturday night), but we found to our delight that even the supermarkets locally were open on Sunday morning.

The gite itself was beautifully presented and clean. The two bathrooms (one separate, one en-suite) were much appreciated by our family and the rooms were very airy and cool when wishing to escape the heat of the day. There was an abundance of tourist literature in the gite, and the owners had compiled a wealth of information on the amenities and attractions of the surrounding area, incorporating the reviews, thoughts and recommendations of previous guests, as well as their own. A well-stocked library of books was also available.

The large pool was perfect for our family of four. We have fond memories of sunbathing next to vines of succulent grapes, whilst watching the bees floating between the heather bushes and with only the sounds of crickets to disturb us. We dined in the huge, immaculately-kept gardens and walked between the nearby fields of sunflowers with butterflies swirling around us. Our young children loved the toys provided and could even watch their 'Cbeebies' programme in the evening. For peace of mind, the wireless internet provided kept us in touch with home and business whilst away.

The location of the gite in the little village of Rouillac certainly makes for easy day trips into the Lot and Quercy region of France and the nearby village of Montcuq has a fabulous weekend market with its supermarkets, shops and restaurants close by.

If you are looking for true luxury in South-west France for a 'down-to-earth' price, then look no further than 'Berty Gite'.

We will not forget our stay in this beautiful and immaculate accommodation, and hope to return soon. Thank you so much for your kindness and hospitality during our stay.

Peaceful French rural retreat

Steve and Gail Shropshire UK
Review Submitted: October 27, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2009
A wonderful peaceful rural location perfect for recharging batteries but not too isolated to find good resturants and shops. A well maintained gite which has been equiped to a high standard.

The pool area is a real bonus, perfect for relaxing in the sunshine with wafts of lavender scent carried in the air. The garden is a haven for wildlife with the meadow being full of wild flowers and butterflies.
The local town of Montcuq is close and prefect for all provisions or just sitting outside drinking coffee. Typical colourful French market on Sundays worth visiting.

The owners couldn't be more helpful, they live on site and whilst they are close by they keep a low profile.

Choice of 3 main resturants in Montcuq but many in the surrounding area.

The area is ideal for walkers with many routes throughout the countryside. Trips to Cahors provides further choices for shopping and interesting boat trips. If you want to travel further afield it is possible to have a day trip to the Millau bridge and to the lovely historic city.

I would recommend this holiday let to friends and family and in fact already have. We have returned 3 years running which speaks for itself
