Montcuq has on of the 100 best markets in France, every Sunday morning. It also offers all local shops and services with a selection of good restaurants and bars. Larger shops are found at Cahors, where you can visit the outstandingly beautiful medieval bridge Pont Valentré, and take a boat trip up the river Lot to St Cirq Lapopie.
This area of Quercy Blanc is known for its vineyards, sunflowers and striking pigeonniers (dovecotes) with buildings made from the local white limestone. It abounds in gastronomic delights and a tasting tour is highly recommended - for example you can find prunes, strawberries, asparagus, duck products, honey, biscuits and wine, to name but a few.
There are numerous places of historic interest and stunning scenery to enjoy on day trips. The Lot is much quieter and more unspoiled than the nearby Dordogne and still has an essentially French character, with quiet roads but a lively culture.
