Southwold Barn is a luxurious conversion of traditional cart barns, nestled in the enchanting village of Compton Abdale, set in the heart of the Cotswolds. Character features include original beams, exposed walls and a cosy woodburning stove.

Southwold Barn is stylishly furnished with deep comfy sofas, well equipped kitchen, large refectory table for convivial dining and secondary sitting area equipped with Playstation and games. All four bedrooms and bathrooms are spacious with modern furniture and fittings. Southwold Barn is perfect for exploring the Cotswolds, a family holiday or a get together with friends. We offer weekly holidays or short breaks of either 2 night or 3 to 4 night duration. Compton Abdale is in the heart of the Cotswolds, close to Stow on the Wold, Burford, Cirencester and Cheltenham.

It is a small traditional English country village with seven natural springs running through it. The Crocodile waterspout is famous for its delicious water and people cometo fill their bottles up.

The village is mentioned in the Domesday Book and a settlement has existed since Roman times on the site.

  • Booking - A 25% deposit of the full rental charge is required with your booking to confirm your holiday. In the event of cancellation your deposit is non-refundable.

    Reservations - Two night breaks start on a Friday or Saturday. Three night breaks start on a Friday. Or you can stay for four nights starting on the Monday for the same price. A weeks visit runs from Saturday to Saturday. For a longer holiday, you can, of course, take more than one week or add a short break to give you a second weekend. Unless by prior arrangement access time is 3:00pm on the day of arrival until 10:00am on day of departure. Please inform us if you will be arriving later than 6:00pm so arrangements can be made.

    Linen/Towels - All bedrooms feature duvets with quality bed linen provided being fully made up on arrival. Towel set supplied per person.

    Heating - Oil fired central heating throughout.

Accomodation: Whilst having every modern convenience, this property retains the original charm and character of it's origins with exposed stonewalls, beams. Stylishly furnished a romantic four poster bed, well equipped kitchen (down to garlic press and cook books), large refectory table and a second sitting room for the kids to escape from the adults. Externally there is a pretty cottage garden with stream running through with garden furniture and barbeque for al fresco eating on those Summer evenings. Adjoining the garden is a 2 acre field, ideal for children activities and games. Activities are endless.

Location: Southwold Barns location makes it ideal for exploring the Cotswolds. The Regency town of Cheltenham is a short drive away. Cirencester, renowned for its Roman heritage, is 10 miles. Within easy reach is the university town of Oxford for punting, history and sight seeing and Stratford-upon-avon where many museums and theatres pay homage to Wiliam Shakespeare. Warwick and Bristol are all easily reached. Southwold Barn has a number of excellent pubs and restaurants located nearby. There are also several excellent golf courses and lovely walks within easy reach.

Idyllic Cotswold Cottage

Southwold Barn was absolutely perfect. We had a great time with the chickens, Mack (peacock) and Angel (cat). I can’t recommend a stay there highly enough, especially if you have an expert egg poacher and log fire lighter with you! Stunning views, friendly locals and neighbours, with some of the best October weather I can remember.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Tourists without a Car, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

Home from Home

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Southwold Barn last week.
The accommodation is first class and ideally suited our family needs. The beds are especially comfortable. The kitchen is particularly well equipped - probably the best self-catering kitchen I have enjoyed in more than 25 years of 'cottage' holidays (although we never did find the butter dish - guess we didn't look in the right place)

The outside area could not have been more perfect, with the chickens and peacock for our youngest member to delight in - plus a tiny stream for the first ever wearing of wellingtons.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Girls Getaway, Sightseeing, Families with Young Children, People with Disabilities

Delightful Cottage

We had a lovely weekend in this delightful cottage. Even with 8 of us staying there was plenty of space. The cottage is in a lovely, peaceful setting, it was clean & well maintained. The owner gave us a warm welcome, a delicious cake and supplied help for our technological challenges with the TV!! She even provided wood for the wood burner when we asked. We all loved having the peacock and chickens around. I would highly recommend this cottage, wish we could have had a longer stay!

Fantastic property and ideallic location

As a group of 7 adults and a young baby we'd definitely recommend this property to anyone heading to this area. From the minute we arrived we were welcomed by Emma the very friendly owner and shown around the immaculately presented house. All bedrooms are well decorated with quality linen and towels provided & as all rooms are ample size no one gets the short straw either. The open plan kitchen and lounge area has plenty of room for everyone to relax & the board games provided are a nice touch too.

Thanks for such a wonderful weekend and hope to stay again in the future.

Blissful weekend away at Southwold Barn

Beautful barn in a peaceful location in the Cotswolds. My friends and I so enjoyed staying in Southwold Barn last weekend. The cottage was fully equipped with all mod cons and some welcoming home comforts. When we arrived we were greeted with a yummy lemon drizzle cake that the owner Emma had made fresh that day. I would definitely stay here again and would highly recommend it.
