Photos and Description of this Pescaglia holiday house A 2 bed cottage in the hills above Pescaglia, with fabulous views towards Lucca

The house is situated just above the village of Pescaglia, and enjoys fabulous views down through the Pescaglia valley, towards Lucca and beyond. Pisa airport is just over an hour away, Lucca (the walled city) is about 30 minutes, Florence just over an hour away, with many other famous towns within easy reach. Barga, the famous hilltop town is well worth a visit, with stunning views, charming streets and ancient cathedral. Montecatini, one of the more famous spa towns is also well worth a visit, and perhaps after sampling the thermal baths, a trip to the old town up on the hill for your evening meal....magnificent! Lucca just has to be visited, mostly free of traffic because of the city walls, it is very enjoyable to explore on foot, with so much to see, many churches, the Roman Anfiteatro, and many piazzas, with cafes and restaurants and galore. The top of the walls can be cycled around, we took our own picnic, and stopped half way....very pleasant. (cycle hire in Lucca)

There are many within an easy drive, all serving very good local fare. To dine out is a real pleasure, and will not cost a fortune! There are many towns and villages within easy reach of the house, Lucca, Florence, Barga, & Bagni di Lucca to name a few, all with their own character and steeped in history. We are able to arrange walking tours of Florence and Pisa. Please contact the owners for more details. For those of you interested in classical music.....Lucca and the surrounding area was home to the Puccini family. During the summer months, there are outdoor music festivals in Lucca and at Torre del Lago. We especially enjoy visiting in June, when the fireflies are at their best, on a nice warm evening.

For the evening meals we enjoy eating out at the local restaurants, of which there are many......and a sumptious meal for 4 will not break the bank! In one particular favourite of ours, we often have 2 or 3 courses plus wine, coffees and local liquers for around 30 euros for 4 people. The house has central heating for the cooler spring and autumn evenings, also a wood burning stove in the living room.....very cosy on a cold night! The swimming pool is a 'splash' pool, but very nice to cool off in, in the very hot summer weather. The outdoor furniture consists of table and chairs for 4 people, also 4 sunbeds.

Further details for this holiday house rental Pescaglia, Italy

Passo a Sella is an old farm house, set in the hills just North of Lucca. It has been restored in typical Tuscan fashion. There is a large terrace area to enjoy the fabulous vista, whilst dining, or just sipping your prosecco and relaxing. The house sleeps four people, in one double bedded room and one twin bedded room. The living room has a fire place for the cooler autumn evenings. The front door opens onto the large terrace which catches the sun for most of the day during the summer. The house is well situated for walking, perhaps taking a hike, to build the appetite ready for the evening feasts. The bathroom has a large shower, wash basin, toilet and bidet. There is another toilet and shower area, useable in the warmer months, in the outhouse. The kitchen is well equipped for self catering with all the usual necessities. The worktop is a pink Sardinian granite, the doors are chestnut (castagne), of which there are many in the woods.

The pool is an above ground type, approx 12ft across, and 3.5 ft deep. The nearest village, Pescaglia, is about 8 minutes in the car. It has 2 shops, a cafe, a bank, and many churches. There are many restaurants dotted around the hillside, all offering a gastronomic feast. The nearest restaurant is about 2 minutes away, this is also a small shop that always seems to be very well stocked with fresh produce. The Italians are fanatical about their food! San Gimignano and Siena are within easy reach, as is Bagni di Lucca, another famous spa town. The beaches are easily reached in about 50 minutes, with Carrara the backdrop to the coast.....a fantastic vista. Viareggio and Camaiore are the closest beach resorts, very popular with the Italians through the summer(Carrara, of course the home to the Carrara marble industry). There are many other towns and villages which all have their own quaint charms, and awaiting your exploration. The area is just saturated in 'history'.

Peace and Quiet

Endies Devon, UK
Review Submitted: February 13, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2009
We all enjoyed our family holiday in August, the house had everything
you needed for a holiday home. It had breathtaking views from the terrace where we enjoyed our evening meals. and the pool was handy for the occasional dip to keep cool.
The drive to the house is an experience as the narrow road in places weaves its way up the hillside to the very steep rustic driveway down to the house. This was a challenge as our daughter had broken her leg. Due to her injury we found the shower and WC on the terrace very useful as she did not need to use the stairs inside the house until bedtime.
Although the location of the house is rural, it was an ideal location for sightseeing the other hillside towns and villages and we found our way to Lucca and Pisa without any problem.
We found the house very clean and the owners very helpful and accommodating with the booking process.
We would definitely consider staying here again. Hopefully without the broken leg!!!!

Passo A Stella

Review Submitted: January 26, 2010 Date of Stay: August 2007
Passo A Stella is a wonderful Tuscan retreat a totally refurbished woodmen’s cottage situated in the Tuscan hills above the village of Pescalia. My wife and I spent two glorious weeks exploring the regions delights such as Lucca, Florence, San Gimingnano, and the Tuscan beaches. After a day exploring it was a treat to return from the mid summer heat to the cool relaxed peace and quite of Passo A Stella to eat alfresco on the large patio and enjoy the stunning panoramic views of the Tuscan hills and plains. We regularly sampled the Italian culinary delights produced by a number of restaurants situated in neighbouring villages often cooked in wood burning kilns. Passo A Sella is highly recommended and well worth a visit.

Owner's Response: We also like eating "alfresco". Enjoying the fantastic views whilst eating some of the fine foods on offer is just fabulous. From breakfast with the dawn chorus, to lunch with the butterflies, and the gentle hum of bees, to supper with the firelies.......It just has to be done!

Myself and fiancee had a fantastic ten days at the house, getting engaged in the surrounding Tuscan hills simply added to our enjoyment!

The location is great - during our holiday we drove to Venice, Lake Garda and Parma, returning for some relaxation at the villa and the superb views from the terrace.

Thank you very much for allowing us to stay at your excellently refurbished house.

Lucca Area holiday house: Pescaglia

Review Submitted: January 14, 2010 Date of Stay: July 2008
I have stayed in this delightful traditional villa on two occasions now. It is romantic and peaceful in a wild and rural location where you can enjoy and absorb the traditional life, great Italian food and the wild countryside of the region
As a wildlife photographer I found a treasure trove of subjects just around the house.
The house is simple but comfortable and clean and the facility and location is made for those who want to de-stress, chill out and sample the real Italy.
Walking or Rambling and eating out can be done locally without use of the car.

Owner's Response: Although we walk to a few of the restaurants, a car is needed to get about. The walk to the closest restaurant takes about 15/20 minutes, a bit longer on the way back as it is up hill.

Beautiful, relaxing place

PaulaM UK
Review Submitted: January 14, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2009
We first went to stay at Sella 1 in late Autumn 2007 and loved it so much we returned in June 2009.

The first time it was cold and bright so we explored Lucca, Barga, Pisa and Florence during the days, ate at the fantastic local restaurants, and then enjoyed throwing a few logs on the fire and relaxing with a good book & a glass of Chianti in the evenings. Bliss! The house is so cosy (fantastic central heating and a nice hot shower!) and peaceful we just totally relaxed. It's rustic and authentic- I love the window shutters as they make sure you sleep like a baby with all the light blocked out, then you get to open them in the morning to that view across the valley. The views are genuinely breathtaking- having seen both the autumn colours and the lush green of summer I can't decide when it looks more beautiful.

The kitchen is really well equipped too if you feel like cooking- we did a couple of times although mainly ate out as there's so much choice nearby. We loved La Sosta which is about ten minutes away and does fantastic ravioli and pizzas, along with the best bottle of 5 Euro wine I've ever encountered! La Fonte is also lovely with amazing Tiramisu. There are lovely walks near the house too if you fancy burning off some of the pasta!

When we went in the summertime we visited Viareggio & Cammaiore which are both gorgeous seaside towns within a manageable drive. We also hired bikes and cycled around the wall in Lucca, and ventured to Venice by train, which took about three hours so we stayed overnight. It was really easy to do that from Lucca train station, changing in Florence, with a phrasebook in hand. The house is really well located so your options for exploring Tuscany seem endless.

That second time, it was a very hot week, so it was lovely to be able to retreat back to the house up in the hills where it was a few degrees cooler. Having said that, it was still warm and sunny enough to relax on the terrace taking in the views with a cold beer close at hand.

Having gone on many holidays in Greece, Spain, Portugal and Italy, all in all I'd say this is one of my favourite places in the world. I'd love to go back again!
Recommended for:  Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: We also loved hiring the bikes in Lucca......this is a great option for exploring the narrow medieaval streets of this famous and beautiful place. We also purchased some local delicacies (plus wine) and took in the wicker bike basket up onto the walls for a picnic!
