Situated in a rural spot 2.5km from the market town of La Haye du Puits. Just one hour from Cherbourg ferry terminal (45km), Caen (120km), St Malo (150km) are also suitable travel options. The town of La Haye du Puits offers shops, bars, restaurants, banks and a weekly market. The sandy beaches of St Germain and Portbail are a 20 minute drive away and all the attractions of Normandy are within easy driving distance.

  • All price above are for any 7 nights based on 4 sharing, you can arrive/depart on any day of the week (ferry crossings cheaper if you can travel midweek) www.brittanyferries.co.uk Cottage is available for any number of nights ie: 7/10/14 etc however the price that will be quoted does not include any cleaning or linen change during your stay.

    Prices based on 4 sharing, additional £40 pppw for extra occupancy. The house will sleep 6, however it is more comfortable for 4.

    A £40 reduction is offered for two week stays (no linen change or cleaning included). Property suitable for couples, families and the elderly (ground floor double room). Please email or text mobile with full address and will send information sheet/tariff and booking form.

    Nearest Ferry port: Cherbourg. Fastcat service from Portsmouth or Poole.
    Please note that a non refundable deposit is required on completion of booking form so we recommend that you take out travel insurance in the event of cancellation.

The cottage is in a hamlet surrounded by tranquil countryside. The nearest shops, bars and restaurants are in La Haye du Puits. It has three bedrooms, a double (en-suite shower/wc) and a twin on the first floor, a further double (en-suite bath) on the ground floor and a separate wc. There is a large open plan lounge/diner with woodburner, tv/video and dvd player, with video library and cd/radio. The fitted kitchen adjoins the lounge and is equipped with gas hob, electric oven, fridge freezer, microwave, dishwasher and washing machine. All usual kitchen utensils are provided. Outside, there is a patio and fenced garden with lawned area, garden furniture and barbecue equipment are also provided. There is parking for 2 cars. La Haye du Puits Area: There is plenty to amuse both adults and children in the area and within easy reach of the cottage, these include sandy beaches, golf,fishing,cycling,walking, sea and land sailing, horse riding and many water sports.

A casino and horse racing stadium are close by. Many of the attractions of Normandy are within easy reach by car from the cottage, Coutances town and cathedral - 40mins, The Bayeux tapestry 1.15mins, The hypermarkets of Cherbourg and the Cite de la Mer, 45 mins. Mont st Michel & monastery 90 mins aloing with the D Day beaches 45 mins (Utah). The lack of traffic also makes the area ideal for walking and cycling with purpose built tracks approx 3 miles from the cottage. There are extensive information files for guest use at the cottage full of ideas for days out!

Our third time at Le Nid de Chouette and what more can we say but Thank You both for a wonderful 6 days and even the September weather was kind to us! This cottage is the most well equipped gite we have ever stayed in and we have stayed in lots over the years since our first trip to Normandy in 2001. Thanks also for the wine/water and milk on our arrival a nice treat especially as we had no milk and where in desperate need of a cuppa after our long journey from Merseyside.
Enjoyed the Lifeboat day at St Germain beach and also went to the D Day beaches, Cite De la Mer in Cherbourg and the Cathedral at Coutances.
Look forward to our next visit and once again thank you both it's a real home from home!

The location of the property was lovely, a short drove from the nearby town. The cottage was extremely well equipped we were amazed at what was there. The wide beaches of Normandy were close by as well as a number of attractions. The local market was excellent.

Our main criticism was the smell in the property. There obviously was an unrectified damp problem, there were damp patches on the ceiling downstairs and in the downstairs bedroom the smell was over whelming. So much so that despite us booking a 3 bed cottage because that is what we needed as a family - only 2 of the bedrooms were used, for most of the holiday. To disguise the smell the owners had put dozens of airfresheners around the property which made for a heady mix of smell. For example in the downstairs toilet there were 4 seperate airfresheners!!!

Overall unless the damp issues are resolved I would be unable to recommend the cottage to anyone else.
Owner's Response: We were disappointed that the above guests were concerned with a damp smell in the cottage. In our experience this type of older building usually has a slightly musty ambience, especially as it is in a rural area and the summer had been quite wet. Nevertheless we have subsequently revisited the cottage and are aware of a damp patch confined to one wall in the downstairs bedroom, together with the stain on the ceiling in the passageway which was caused by previous guests flooding the shower room above. Both of these problems will be rectified over the winter. As for the abundance of air fresheners, this is a more personal issue and we understand that not everyone likes them but it was not the intention to disguise any overriding damp issue by using them. We are sorry that these guests were not entirely happy with the cottage for the above reasons but would add that all other comments made by previous guests over the past 4 years have been positive and we feel that the cottage merits consideration as a peaceful rural retreat, together with a rural 'ambience'!
