Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Derbyshire Dales, United Kingdom

The building now known as The Forge is one of the oldest buildings in the village. It was run as a blacksmith's workshop until about 1975 by Billy Clark, a well known local character and artist.

Originally it was 3 separate workshops - a blacksmith's in what was once a 'one up-one down' cottage, a joiners in another two storey building and between them a single storey wheelwrights workshop. The central single storey building was extended to both left and right linking the three workshops. The anvil stands outside the front door and in the driveway is the stone on which the wooden wheels were secured to have their iron tyres fitted.

It was in very poor condition when the previous owners purchased it in 1999. It has, since then, undergone a sympathetic conversion and renovation completed in September 2004.

The front door in the central section of the building opens into a large hall.

To the right is a well proportioned and well-equipped kitchen/dining room with oak floor and exposed beams. Going through this room, a door leads to a spacious but cosy lounge, again with oak flooring and having a wood burning stove. French doors lead to a patio and good-sized garden. Above the lounge is a single bedroom with ensuite w,c. (a folding bed is available for use in this room if required). There is also a bedsettee in the lounge which can sleep a further two people if rerquired.

To the left of the front door the hall leads round to a beautifully fitted bathroom with shower. There is a double bedroom on the ground floor and a staircase leads to a twin bedded room with adjacent w.c.

All rooms are tastefully decorated and thoughtfully furnished. There is full central heating. We are confident that you will be pleased with what you find. The nearest shop and pubs are approx 1 mile away in Youlgrave although the local milkman calls regularly and can also supply eggs yogurts drinks etc.

The Forge

Review Submitted: June 27, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
I went to The Forge with 5 friends for a long weekend and we had the most wonderful time. The cottage is in a lovely village within easy walking distance of pubs & shops. There are lovely walking trails nearby and it's a short car journey to Bakewell & to Chatsworth House both of which we visited. The cottage itself is perfect; it the perfect mix of stone walls, beamed celings with modern appliances. The kitchen is well stocked of equipment and well equipped to deal with a large roast! The lounge is very cosy with a TV and dvd player as well a log fire should you want it. The bedrooms are lovely and the beds are extremely comfortable. We felt at home from the very moment we got there and it was a thoroughly wonderful weekend. What makes it all better is that Howard, the owner, is absolutely lovely and will go above and beyond to make a great trip. The Forge comes highly recommended!

Lovely cosy cottage in beautiful location

Review Submitted: February 3, 2011 Date of Stay: January 2011
I have recently had my fourth stay here and would thoroughly recommend this cottage. It is very clean and well presented and has everything you could want. Beds are very comfortable and the kitchen is well equipped. There is a lovely enclosed garden with table and and chairs. The surrounding area is stunning with great walks through woods and by the river, straight from the cottage. There is a small playground across the road which was great for the kids!

Perfect get-away cottage

Review Submitted: January 24, 2011 Date of Stay: January 2011
I recently visited The Forge with friends and had the best time. It is really well maintained and very spacious and easily sleeps 6/8. The location is perfect as it only took just over an hour from Stockport, and yet you feel like you are miles from anywhere. Great walks and local pubs, and I can't wait to go back with my family, as there is so much to explore.

The owners were very helpful and informative and I would definitely recommend this property to my family and friends.
