Photos and Description of this Isle of Bute & Cowal Peninsula holiday cottage
2 bedroom ttraditional cottage to sleep 5 Argyll, Scotland

Available to let all year round, Hillview Cottage is a traditional 2 bedroom property situated in a stunning scenic sheltered setting in an elevated position over looking the sparse western shores of the Isle of Bute with the island of Arran and it's Holy Isle far in the distance. The view is most dramatic in winter and spring months when the leaves have fallen from the trees. The cottage is a wonderful place to stay for rest, relaxation and recreation. The cottage is located close to Tighnabruaich on the Cowal peninsula in the Argyll and Bute district on the West coast of Scotland less than 2 hours from Glasgow. Situated 1.5 miles north of the villages of Tighnabruaich and the adjoining Kames, the Cottage feels serenely remote yet all services required are close at hand. In the villages are 2 excellent supermarkets, garage with petrol and workshop, 4 hotels, sailing school, Kyles shinty pitch, tennis courts, and 9 hole golf course with spectacular views over the Kyles of Bute.

Notes: It must be noted that the last 200m of the access track is quite steep and bumpy at a couple of places and though easily accessible by foot, it would be difficult for the infirm or by wheelchair. The cottage has three steps up to floor level. We always drive the car, a vauxhall astra front wheel drive up the last 200m of track, albeit driver only, and with only a half load if it is particularly heavy, thus making 2 drives up. in such circumstances. For cars with lower than normal ground clearance we would recommend they park in the lay by at the bottom and carry their luggage. We would ask any smokers to indulge only outside the premises, thank you.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Isle of Bute & Cowal Peninsula, United Kingdom

Comfortably rustic: the cottage, which sleeps 5 comfortably, is a wonderfully rustic place constructed of stone and slate in 1896 for use as a gamekeepers abode for the Caladh Estate. The interior has stone walls and pine clad roof and wooden floor boards in the main two rooms and stone floors in the rear rooms. Heating is by virtue of a new (late 2011) wood burning stove, a log fire and there are additional calor gas heaters for those cold nights. The wood stove has a back boiler which produces piping hot fresh water from a wholesome mountain stream in which you can bathe in a wonderful deep Victorian cast iron bath. Take the candles in with some wine and music and a good friend and keep topping up the hot! Lighting is by virtue of oil lamps and candles, and there is a torch and battery powered light for late night visits to the WC. For cooking there is a gas cooker with oven and grill. There is also a stereo radio cassette. Please note there is no electricity or land telephone line, and be assured you won`t miss them!

Two of the cottage boundaries are small streams with a sturdy wooden bridge to the front of the cottage over the Allt Dubh (Gallic for black water). Should you wish to stay at the Cottage you will be forwarded an information sheet which will provide information of must do's, time permitting; amazing secret beaches to visit and have a picnic, scenic rambling routes, the best routes to walk up the mountain to the rear of the cottage - stunning views of peninsulas and islands, excellent places to eat and have coffee and cake, and does and dont's for those not familiar with wood stoves, log fires and oil lamps, etc. Also note that the cottage is a really beautiful place to visit all year round and winter is a favourite time for getting warm a cosy and spending some quality time. Repeat bookings receive 10% discount.

The best scenic drive in Scotland: The Scotsman newspaper identified the road from Glendaruel to Tighnabruaich as the best scenic drive in Scotland in it's issue of 29 March 2007. Follow the link for description:-

Golf:

Kyles of Bute Golf Club

Set in an area of outstanding natural beauty on the hill above Kames, the 9 hole course golf course offers truly panoramic views across the water to the Island of Bute.

During the round there are other stunning aspects across Loch Fyne to the Mull of Kintyre, and south to the Ayrshire coast past Arran. The golf course has nine very intriguing holes, all quite different in design, requiring careful choice of both club and shot.

Although there are no bunkers or traps, there are burns, patches of heather and gorse, and blind shots on two holes to keep everyone on their toes! There are plenty of opportunities to enjoy the wildlife as the deer and numerous birds of prey can often be seen, and heard.

A magical hideaway in January ...

Review Submitted: February 6, 2012 Date of Stay: January 2012
A fantastic little cottage that we fell in love with.
This very special little property is in a beautiful isolated location. We were so lucky with the weather, cold frosty days, and amazing clear night skies for star gazing. We keeped the wood stove burning all day and made lots of hotpots and soups to keep us cosy and warm. We did lots of walking from the cottage, saw loads of deer... the dog absolutely loved it too!
Everything was just perfect.Thank you...
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for letting us you know you all enjoyed your stay so much, it is quite a special place! Also glad to hear the new wood burning stove is working well!

Freedom

Review Submitted: January 24, 2012 Date of Stay: January 2012
This is our second stay at the cottage and every time I've felt completely refershed and ready to battle 'the man' on return.

Thanks so much for such a great break, again; a real get away from it
all, detune and relax. It’s a very romantic rustic cottage; wonderful
in the evening with the candles and oil lamps and fires. The freedom
of space and silence was marvellous, and scenery and views
breathtaking, we even had quite a bit of winter sun too!

The wood burning stove was fabulous, we managed to set it low through
the night and it fired up instantly in the morning.

Managed most of the recommended walks and hidden beaches and went out
and enjoyed some lovely food too.

Will be back again and probably again and will recommend to friends and family. A great place to think and write and play music and recover :-)
Owner's Response: Thank you so much for your feedback. We're so glad you enjoyed a relaxing and refreshing time, and good to hear the new wood burning stove is doing it's job in the winter! Best wishes and happy new year!

Great Place to Stay

Review Submitted: July 13, 2011 Date of Stay: June 2011
We had a lovely stay at Hill Cottage and loved its rustic nature and the beautiful surroundings. The cottage lay-out is good considering its size. The children and dog loved the freedom they had around the place.

The midges are the only drawback - but that's Scotland for you!

Thank you for the most amazing stay ever. The weather was bright, sunny and hot every day - we just could not believe our luck (we even came back to London with a tan!!). The cottage is so beautiful and rustic...which was exactly what we needed for a break from the city.

We will certainly be recommending it to our friends and family. Thanks again for making our stay so glorious

What a beautiful setting.

Review Submitted: April 14, 2011 Date of Stay: April 2011
We very much enjoyed our stay at Hill Cottage. What a beautiful setting and the weather was quite good for the most part. Walks were lovely as was Tighnabruaich and the surrounding area. One of our favourite outings was to Lachlan castle and Inver cottage. It was rainy and cool but we warmed up by the fire and had a delicious dinner. A very cozy Scottish memory. We also loved Kintyre, and a delicious lunch at
The Barn at Millcroft.
All in all, great memories of a wonderful place. Thank you.
