Photos and Description of this Isle of Bute & Cowal Peninsula holiday cottage 2 bedroom ttraditional cottage to sleep 5 Argyll, Scotland

Available to let all year round, Hill Cottage is a traditional 2 bedroom property situated in a stunning scenic sheltered setting in an elevated position over looking the sparse western shores of the Isle of Bute with the island of Arran and it's Holy Isle far in the distance. The view is most dramatic in winter and spring months when the leaves have fallen from the trees. The cottage is a wonderful place to stay for rest, relaxation and recreation. The cottage is located close to Tighnabruaich on the Cowal peninsula in the Argyll and Bute district on the West coast of Scotland less than 2 hours from Glasgow. Situated 1.5 miles north of the villages of Tighnabruaich and the adjoining Kames, Hill Cottage feels serenely remote yet all services required are close at hand. In the villages are 2 excellent supermarkets, garage with petrol and workshop, 3 hotels, sailing school, Kyles shinty pitch, tennis courts, and 9 hole golf course with spectacular views over the Kyles of Bute.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Isle of Bute & Cowal Peninsula, United Kingdom

Hill cottage, which sleeps 5 comfortably, is a wonderfully rustic place constructed of stone and slate in 1896 for use as a gamekeepers abode for the old Caladh Estate. The interior has stone walls and pine clad roof and wooden floor boards. Heating is by virtue of two log fires and there are additional calor gas heaters for those cold nights. One of the log fires has a back boiler which produces piping hot fresh water from a wholesome mountain stream in which you can bathe in a wonderful deep Victorian cast iron bath. Take the candles in with some wine and music and a good friend and keep topping up the hot! Lighting is by virtue of oil lamps and candles, and there is a torch and battery powered light for late night visits to the WC. For cooking there is a gas cooker with oven and grill. There is also a stereo cd radio cassette. Please note there is no electricity or land telephone line, and be assured you won`t miss them.

Two of the cottage boundaries are small streams with a small wooden bridge to the front of the cottage over the Alt Dubh (Gallic for black water) to an open area where it is possible to cut wood and build fires outside should you be inclined. Should you wish to stay at Hill Cottage you will be forwarded an information sheet which will provide information of must do's, time permitting; amazing secret beaches to visit and have a picnic, scenic rambling routes, the best routes to walk up the mountain to the rear of the cottage - stunning views of peninsulas and islands, cycle routes - a couple of older adult bikes are in the shed - excellent places to eat and have coffee and cake, and does and dont's for those not familiar with log fires and oil lamps, etc. Also note that the cottage is a really beautiful place to visit all year round and winter is a favourite time for getting warm a cosy and spending some quality time. Repeat bookings receive 10% discount.

The cottage is beautiifull and the views stunning. We loved the old charm and log fires in the evenings and no one missed having electic, the boys wore them seleves ot exploring and the dog loved the stream near the shed to paddle in. The down side is the track its very steep in places and a long hike up with bags and as we didnt risk damaging the car so it was left safley in the layby, Definatly a place worth staying at for the peace and quite, next time we will bring the 4x4

Owner's Response: Thank you for your view, we're glad you enjoyed your stay. We will be carrying out further improvement works to the last stretch of track during the autumn to improve the access.

Our own little garden of Eden

HansM Utrecht, Netherlands
Review Submitted: July 27, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
Hill cottage was the first Holiday Home presented to us on the website. No need to look further. We've rented a lot of places but this is absolutely number one. Sure, this romantic and definitely rustic hide-away lacks electricity and warm water but it has so much to offer in return: absolute quiet, the view, the little stream and its soothing sound close by to admire or puddle in, inevitable candle light diners, deer and stag in the garden. We even got nice weather to go, and we hadn't even counted on that! A week was much too short, we will have to come back. Bring your dogs if you can, and good shoes. The climb up to the cottage is OK if you own a four-wheel-drive, if not be prepared to haul your luggage up there; to find out it's definitely worth it!
Recommended for:  Pet-friendly, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: Great to hear you enjoyed the cottage so much! Just a wee note to mention to those browsing that hot water is available via the backboiler system of the main fire, and we are due to have more improvement works carried out to the track in the next weeks to improve access; we could get our 2 wheel drive car up to the front door until the the wrong type of gravel was applied to the track during maintenance works and the wheels now spin too much!

Back to magical yesteryear!

Gosia The Netherlands
Review Submitted: June 23, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2010
When I arrived at Hill Cottage after a long journey through the beautiful landscape of Scotland, I was realy moved and stil by the sight of this place...
When I entered the cottage, came the smell of fresh linen, beeswax and burned wood to meet me. Just lovely!
The very first morning I woke up standing face to face with a deer outside the bedroom window, the magic had already begun... this atmosphere of magic, beauty and silence has not deserted me during my stay.
I came here for long walks, enjoying nature and the peaceful silence for me to escape routine of rushing life. And I absolutely found it at Hill Cottage.

The only thing that was a little annoying were the midges and ticks. But there is a lotion that helps very well against the midges. Just ask the owner, he's very helpful.

I can't wait to return! And next time I take my dog, he will love it too...

Love and laughter,
Gosia

Magic

Review Submitted: May 4, 2010 Date of Stay: September 2009
We loved it. Secluded and quiet location for mushroom and berries picking, fishing and walking (nice routes), but shops, pubs nad cafe short drive away. Cottage got all you need (the candels and oil lamps take you back in time). If you are brave enough you can even have a bath in the streem (we did it and it was fun). Freedom for you and dogs !!! The only challenge we have found was the steep hill but you can get use to it after a while. This is the place for you to run away from everyday worries, rush, phones, tv, traffic. The place you can really be just with your other half (friends) relax and enjoy yourself.
Recommended for:  Pet-friendly, Sightseeing, Romantic Getaway
Owner's Response: Thanks for message, we're so glad you enjoyed yourselves, and the tranquility. We're also very impressed with your bath in the mountian stream water; not for the feint hearted!

Hill Cottage - THE Great Escape

RufusM Bristol
Review Submitted: April 26, 2010 Date of Stay: March 2010
The cottage is isolated enough for a true escape from it all. Nearby towns and villages are full of incredibly friendly people. The whole area is stunningly beautiful and serene.

I cannot wait to return.
