North Barsham is an idyllic little hamlet in a rural location yet only five miles away is the unspoilt North Norfolk coast with its various beaches, from sandy to shingle: Wells-next-the-Sea with its huts and lagoons; the Georgian town of Burnham Market for fashion and interiors, as well as two very good restaurants; you can learn to sail and windsurf at Brancaster or Morston; there are seals at Blakeney Point, bird watching at Cley and endless walks on the famous Holkham beach. Walsingham is home to the world’s longest narrow gauge steam railway which in summer takes twenty minutes to reach Wells-next-the-Sea. Besides the outstanding National Trust properties at Blickling and Felbrigg, there are Pensthorpe, Houghton Hall, Holkham and Sandringham and their gardens to be explored. Four miles away is the busy market town of Fakenham that retains its weekly auction and produce market, a farmers’ market on the last Saturday of the month and a racecourse which holds regular meets.
