Hog Cottage is steeped in history and was once a mill cottage, for workers at a local Hat Factory. Only a stroll away from Wirksworth, the town provides shops, restaurants and Pubs. Also close by is Carsington Water, the Tissington Trail and the Midshires Way for every form of recreation.

  • Weekly bookings are taken from Friday-Friday but short breaks are available any nights of the week with a minimum of 3 nights.

    Welcome Pack
    Is provided on arrival, which includes Milk, Butter, Bread, Eggs, Preserves, Orange Juice, Cheese, Tea, Coffee and a Bottle of Wine. We also provide Soap, Toilet Rolls, Kitchen Roll, Salt and Pepper, Washing up Liquid and Washing Powder.

    Pets
    Up to two dogs are permitted but an extra charge of £10 per week will be added to your Bill.

    For babies
    We provide a high chair and a travel cot

    30% deposit is required 7 days after booking by cheque or bank transfer. Balance is due 4 weeks prior to holiday.

The cottage offers a cosy lounge, which has a colour Television/video, Music Centre and living-flame Gas Fire. A relaxing snug which leads into a luxury appointed kitchen, with a Gas Oven and Hob, Microwave, Fridge Freezer, Food Mixer, Dishwasher and Washing Machine. Just off the Kitchen is a good size Dining room that leads out onto the secure patio area.

There are two double bedrooms, one offering a colour TV/Video and the other with an option of two single beds. Also upstairs is the luxury appointed Bathroom with Bath and separate Power Shower. There is a south facing Garden, with patio tables and chairs and a custom built brick Barbecue.

A Welcome Pack is provided on arrival, which includes a bottle of Wine

Hog Cottage

The property was clean and comfortable.
Parking was a nightmare.
Recommended for:  Pet-friendly, Tourists without a Car
Owner's Response: A little surprised at your comment, especially in view of the fact you made a nice comment in the guest book at the Cottage, with no mention of parking issues.

Hog Cottage is a very special Cottage and has bags of character and is appreciated and loved by many guests. Most Cottages in Derbyshire/Peak District which are similar to Hog Cottage are usually old mill cottages, unless that is they are miles away from anywhere and a little remote. The Cottage is over 200 years old and was built when people didn't have cars, so access to these properties can be difficult.

I am not only the manager of Hog Cottage but also the owner and visit the Cottage every six weeks and 99% of the time i park directly outside the Cottage with no difficulty. The only time there was a parking issue was when we had 10 inches of snow.

A peaceful, welcoming, warm cottage

Its the attention to details that make this cottage stand out from others. The extras provided in the kitchen and Bathroom plus the Welcome Basket make all the difference. Its very warm and cosy on those cold snowy evenings and cool on those warm Summer days. Ideal for those who enjoy walking especially if you have a dog. Parking might not be ideal but once inside the cottage it is soon forgotten.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children, Romantic Getaway

A delightful place to stay

We spent four nights in this dear little cottage and enjoyed every minute. It's very well-equipped and very comfortable in a quiet location. Parking was a little hair-raising but we soon sorted that out. Would recommend the cottage to anyone wanting a short break.
