La Pierre Creusoise (the old farmhouse) shares its garden and swimming pool with La Grange (the new barn). Together they form the property known as La Pierre Mitoyenne which rents as a whole for large groups. Both houses can be combined as one via a through door, which is locked when each is rented separately. They are set amidst stunningly unspoilt countryside, and are very quiet at night. La Pierre Creusoise is an old farmhouse with a really traditional feel. The living room boasts two big sofas, and, during the summer is refreshingly cool even on the hottest of days. In the winter, light the fire for cosy comfort. Furniture is strictly French country style, all dark oak. The kitchen possesses modern sink/cupboard units with plenty of storage space, and all 'mod cons'. Recent changes have included the redecoration and insulation of the attic. This is set into the roof beams at the top of the farmhouse and has a Velux roof picture window The master bedroom is light and airy

You can canoe on the Creuse in nearby Aubusson, hire from local club. And/or, the canoes in the barn are available for local rivers/lakes - you will need to bring a rack. And there are many beautiful churches, which often present summertime concerts and recitals. Many town fairs, fêtes and markets throughout during the summer. Aubusson is the ancient tapestry town which supplied Henry VIII's Hampton Court. It still makes and sells hand- and machine-made original tapestries to modern and traditional designs. Visits to châteaus, and tapestry manufacturers etc. Seaside at the Lac de Vassiviere – pedaloes, sand and restaurants. Beautiful walks and drives, include the glorious unspoilt River Creuse valley, and local lakes, with many possibilities to swim, as well as the swimming pool. Good cycling country, suitable for beginner's rides to challenging hill climbs. The tourist office in Ahun gives full details of all local activities throughout the year.

The farmhouse is full of character, with oak beams and fireplace. The kitchen is recently modernised, and includes a fridge, double oven cooker, wood-fired cooker and microwave. The upper bedrooms include a large double bedroom , furnished with a traditional double headboard bed, antique wardobe etc; a small twin-bed room, cosy and comfortable and a double bed in the converted attic with plenty of space and more beds if needed; and a shower-room/toilet, also recently modernised. Electric radiators in all upper rooms, wood heating downstairs The shared garden (with the barn conversion) features a large swimming pool, 10x8 metres. There's a brick built barbeque, table tennis, outdoor tables chairs in teak, deckchairs and plenty of space. The shared garage features a washing machine and another fridge if needed.

Why holiday in the Creuse? Because it's France's undiscovered paradise that's why. Its roads are peaceful, traffic free and safe – ideal for cycling, walking and driving - especially classic cars! It's got everything you could wish for in a relaxed holiday. Set high up amongst the peaceful forests, fields and lakes of the Creuse river valley, this comfortable and welcoming property enjoys a lovely outlook over the valley sides which fall towards the river behind. The enormous garden is big enough you never need ever to leave it for swimming, relaxation, conversation and games. And when you want to get out to explore the wonderful unspoilt countryside, the locals are friendly and welcoming and the restaurants excellent value. In summer, the daytime sun is hot and the evenings warm. Take the old road to the famous medieval tapestry town of Aubusson where time has stood still, The River Creuse meanders along its superb wooded valley with a single-track railway line alongside

The area is well served for shops and restaurants, but a car is normally essential. It is possible to stay in the house and rely entirely on the shops in St Sulpice (1 mile), with its general store (delicious morning croissants), hairdressers, butcher's shop and pharmacy. Recently the commune has reopened the bar and this serves hot food on many evenings. The nearest reasonable size supermarket is in Ahun (6 miles). Though the range is better in the Aubusson supermarkets, and there is a cheap Netto, supplementing from the markets (vegetables, meat, cheese etc.) will provide a varied diet, with really fresh produce. There are many excellent country markets, which sell a wide variety of local produce, as well as delicious farmhouse cheeses. Restaurants serve substantial freshly-cooked French country cooking as a rule, though there are one or two upmarket restaurants. Despite the low level of tourism, or perhaps because of it, eating out usually represents excellent value in Creuse.
