The house was built over 200 years ago with the local honey coloured stone and inside retains many of the old features including stone walls and beams. The outside walls are covered with roses, vines and climbing plants. The apartment has been recently refurbished to a very high standard and is light and airy sleeping up to 4 people in comfort. It has a large modern bright fully fitted kitchen and has a log stove making spring and autumn holidays a delight. You can eat in the kitchen but on warm sunny days you will probably choose to eat outside on the sunny balcony which overlooks the valley and church below. This is extremely convenient as the balcony is directly outside the kitchen and there is a barbeque here for your use.
Stairs from the kitchen lead upto the pretty bedroom which has twin beds and is heavily beamed with polished chestnut flooring.
From the kitchen a few steps lead down to the sitting room which is beamed and has lovely stone features with views across the valley. It is possible to drive up the narrow lane to the house to unload luggage etc. but it is not possible to park the car outside the house. However there are several parking areas a few hundred metres away.
From the time you arrive at Le Rouquet there is no need to use your car unless you wish as Castelnaud has all that you need. There is an excellent baker, a wonderful butcher (that also sells cold meats and some ready prepared dishes), a small general store and post office (with ATM machine) as well as an excellent restaurant and other eating places. There is excellent river bathing in the village and canoe trips can be organised from the office on the river bank.
The walking in the wooded hills behind the village along the marked trails is delightful and makes a restful alternative if you have had your fill of the other wonderful sites in the area. There are maps for all the local walks in the apartment.
