On the curve of the mediterranean coastline which runs from Dalaman to Kas lies Gocek which is only 20 minutes from the airport so that you can relax into your holiday almost immediately after arriving in Turkey. Gocek bay is populated with a familly of twelve picturesque islands accessible by daily Gullet trips . Many have beaches, some with delightfull restaurants and some are historically significant, you could visit Cleopatra's Island, said to have been a gift to the Egyptian beauty from Mark Antony. Ruins of her haman ( turkish bath) are still to be found there and bathed in.
Gocek is ideally situated for visits to many areas of interest including Fethiye with its large market and interesting fish market, rock tombs of Amyntas, sarcophogi hidden in the back streets, Olu Deniz and its blue lagoon and paragliding from the top of Mount Babadag (6500ft) , Kayakoy with its Greek Ghost town and offshore Gemilar Island with its ruins,and of course Dalyan with its healthy mud baths ,turtles rock tombs and ancient ruins of the Caunus and the many, many archaeological sites of Lycia further afield . The ancient Lycian capital of Xanthos , Tilos and the beautiful Xanthos valley with its hidden canyon gouged by rushing waters of the river are within easy striking distance of Gocek.
