Derwentwater is only a short walk from the centre and on its shores is the famous Theatre by the Lake. With an impressive number of mountains, valleys and lakes so close at hand, Keswick is an ideal holiday destination. The magnificence of this area can be appreciated throughout the year. There is an abundance of outdoor activities; walking for all levels and ages, rock climbing, mountain biking, sailing, canoeing, and sailboarding. Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Keswick & North Lakes, United Kingdom

Oakside Cottage is a cosy, centrally heated, well-equipped property, annexed to a former 18th Century farmhouse. Formally a barn, it has been tastefully converted to a high standard, retaining many original features including oak beams and vaulted ceilings on the upper floor. All of the main rooms have good quality oak flooring with rugs, the stairs are carpeted in local Herdwick wool and the kitchen and shower room have matching ceramic wall and floor tiles. The two attractive bedrooms, one double and one twin, are on the ground floor and these are traditionally furnished with pine suites, built in wardrobes, blinds and curtains. The shower room, kitchen and living room are upstairs taking full advantage of the wonderful views, Skiddaw to the front and the Braithwaite fells to the rear. The living room contains an electric wood effect stove, two comfortable sofas, dining furniture, TV, radio, DVD and CD players.

The well co-ordinated kitchen has limed oak units, integral fridge, electric cooker and microwave. In the shower room, which is well finished, there is a large electric power shower, w.c., wash basin and shaver point. Outside there is a small patio area with seating, parking for two cars and a covered alleyway where wet gear and bicycles may be stored. This cottage is ideal for families with older children or couples wishing to explore the fells. Please note this is a non-smoking property and pets are not allowed. See our website at www.oaksidecottage.co.uk

Read some of the comments from our visitor's book: 'A little gem of a cottage but with huge appeal. Comfy and spotless. Superb conversion.' 'The best quality cottage we have ever stayed in.' 'A lovely cottage with excellent views of Grisedale Pike and Skiddaw. Who could ask for more?' 'A really warm and comfortable cottage, this is an excellent retreat from the hustle and bustle of city life. Thank you for the careful thought which has so clearly gone in to making this a special place.' Many of our visitors return again and again.

Comfortable cosy Oakside Cottage

DiddleyDi Durham
Review Submitted: January 13, 2010 Date of Stay: January 2008
It is always a pleasure to stay at Oakside Cottage. A very clean and well maintained property. The upstairs lounge/dining room is very comfortable, with character, and great views of the fells. The owner provides a great deal of information about the area with suggestions for local walks and other amenities. The cosy modern kitchen has everything you could wish for from making breakfast to full scale meals which can be eaten on the dining table. There is a modern bathroom with a walk-in shower which is just what you need after long walks on the fells. Ground floor bedrooms are nicely furnished with plenty of room for storage. The whole cottage has character and is a comfortable place to stay and use as a base. It is within easy walking distance of the village shops and pubs and near a bus route into Keswick. On foot from the cottage it is possible to access several fells including Barrow and Grisedale Pike. By car, Whinlatter Forest Visitor Centre is nearby providing an opportunity to check on the Osprey's. We always enjoy our stay at Oakside Cottage and are met with a warm welcome from Pam, the owner, every time.

Oakside Cottage, Braithwaite, Cumbria

Review Submitted: January 6, 2010 Date of Stay: November 2009
Our stay in Oakside Cottage was a real treat. Cosy, comfortable and so well equipped. Everything has been thought of and what's more, it all works. A friendly welcome and lots of relevant tourist info to help you make the most of your stay. Braithwaite is an excellent location, close to several well known fells or there are a number of less strenuous walks in and around the village. We really enjoyed our stay and would be very happy to pay a return visit.

Up with the best

Les B Huddersfield West Yorkshire
Review Submitted: December 21, 2009 Date of Stay: March 2009
After more than 35 years of self catering holidays I have stayed in just about every level of quality both of place and property. Oakside Cottage is up with the best.
The owner's description is entirely accurate and the contents of the kitchen drawers show how much thought has gone into the place.
Braithwaite is a good spot from which to explore the Northern Lakes without the hassle of nearby Keswick's traffic. The proximity of three hostelries, all of which do good food if cooking becomes a chore, completes a cracking choice of places to stay.

We've stayed here several times over the last few years. Always had a friendly welcome and always found the cottage clean and well equipped. It's in a great location just outside Keswick, in the village centre and handy for the pub!
Thouroughly recommended!

Oakside cottage

Review Submitted: December 19, 2009 Date of Stay: September 2009
We always stay at Oakside cottage whenever we come to the Lake District, An excellent home-from-home, it's very comfortable and spotlessly clean in a small village at the foot of the Whinlatter pass. Walks from the doorstep and a beautiful view from the living room.
Highly recommended.
