'The Old School House' is a beautifully renovated village schoolhouse, located amongst the green hills of Asturias in N Spain, with its own sunny secluded orchard and brook

Nestled in a small valley, above the village of Espinaredo (Famed for rural architecture), the property provides a perfect location for all Asturias has to offer.

Relax in the private 2 acre orchard, on the banks of your own crystal clear stream or use the house as a perfect location for enviable holiday combinations: Hill walking, sandy beaches, bird watching, surfing, kayaking, fishing, mountain biking, or sightseeing, shopping in places such as Gijon, Oviedo, Picos De Europa, Covadonga.

Birdwatching: The hills are full of wonderful birds and condors.

Canoeing: Ribadesella hosts a major world canoe championship every year.

    All rentals run from Saturday pm to the following Saturday am (7 Nights).
    The property is a fully registered Casa De Aldea, and all prices include 8% Spanish Tax.
    Guests are requested not to arrive at the property earlier than 4 pm on the first day of their stay, and they are kindly requested to vacate the house no later than 10am on their day of departure. This allows the house and contents to be cleaned and refreshed for the arrival of our next guests.
  • Smoking is only allowed on the balcony area upstairs and in the external areas outside the property. The house is strictly 'no smoking'.

Notes: The property has a delightful gently sloping garden/orchard of approx 2 acres, which leads down to a small bubbling mountain river. The garden has plenty of solar lights for summer evenings. Sunbeds, outside eating area, etc are provided, as are a number of outdoor games for the younger visitors i.e. Swing ball, badminton etc. Plenty of areas sun or shade, totally private and just beautiful.

This house has been beautifully renovated, and the superb quality of the furnishings reflect its exquisite surroundings.

With 3 bedrooms, the property sleeps 4 to 6 people in comfort, although we prefer to let to 4 people. Full C/H, and radiators throughout, triple glazed windows, a spiral staircase, wooden and tiled floors and wooden shutters on all windows, the house is cosy & warm in any weather.

The lounge/dining area is open plan with a gorgeous leather 'L' shaped seating area in front of a ornamental stone fireplace.

The fully equipped kitchen area has all the day to day essentials that any aspiring cook could need, and with a weekly fresh produce market in the local village on Mondays, creating a feast of local fare should be the least of your worries, great area for foodies.

3 bedrooms are located at the top of the ornate spiral staircase, two doubles and one twin, all with lovely views and the main bedroom with its own balcony.

The house also has 2 shower rooms, one upstairs and one downstairs.

Just a stroll down the leafy lanes is the pretty village of Espinaredo, with some of the best preserved Horreos or barns in Spain, the little bar also serves a very pleasant tapas.

5km beyond you will find the outstanding restaurant La Vega (Lo De Pelayo), situated on the left just before you meet the main Infiesto road.

With its wonderful menu bristling with freshly caught and grilled local fish, venison or wild boar, this is a restaurant not to miss. Make sure you try the spider crab when in season.

An superb 3 course evening meal with drinks and coffee will cost you around € 20 pp. RECOMMENDED.

2 km further on lies the bustling local town of Infiesto, which offers everything from delicious home made pastries, to supermarkets, to kayak hire.

The weekly farmers market takes place on Mondays. Infiesto has everything you need and more; banks, PO, chemist, medi-centre, police station, fuel, train stations.

For your safety, smoke alarms and fire extinguishers are fitted throughout the house in case of emergency.

Ski:

There are two ski stations in the Picos no more than 90 min from the house.

Golf:

There are 4 or 5 nice courses within easy driving distance, at least three of those are on the coast with great sea views.

Other Activities:

Quad Trekking, Pony Trekking, Canoeing/Kayaking

Well we are back and I can tell you we wish we were still there!!! We had such a great time and your lovely home made the time in Asturias extra special(the in laws were even impressed!!). We would like to take this opportunity to say a big thank you for all your help, especially over the washing machine!
The whole experience of staying at the house was superb, so relaxing and we look forward to staying there again. I will write a review on HomeAway Holiday Rentals.

Beautiful house,idyllic scenery what more ?

We were a little apprehensive of the location but when we pulled up outside this beautiful house and saw how lovely the scenery was around the house, we were so excited and delighted we had booked The Old School House.
The house was beautifully furnished and so homely, Mark and Lisa have certainly excelled themselves in creating a lovely home in this beautiful part of Asturias.The children absolutely loved the garden and the brook at the bottom, it was so peaceful and all we had for neighbours was wildlife, cows,horses,stags etc.
Mark and Lisa were so helpful and couldn,t do enough for us and answered any questions we may have had promptly and efficiently.
The roads leading up to the house are very narrow and not for the faint hearted but we can honestly say this was not a problem.
Overall the Lewis family were extremely impressed with this beautiful restored School House, everything there you could want and more, we cant wait to go back and would recommend this property 100%
