The Chateau: The Chateau is the perfect large country house setting for those seeking comfortable, elegant and tranquil surroundings in which to relax, escape the hustle and bustle and enjoy a more serene and leisurely pace of life. Tucked away within its own secluded grounds, it is nevertheless within easy reach of many different towns and their attendant facilities. The house lends itself particularly well to family reunions and celebrations, such as birthdays and anniversaries, offering a warm and homely atmosphere in a private venue. For the musically-minded there are two pianos and a guitar in the music room;
Although children are most welcome, the property, due to its age and size, is not ideally suited to large numbers between the ages of 18 months and 6 years.
We also offer overnight (or longer) BED & BREAKFAST ACCOMMODATION. Being situated close to the major ferry ports, we are ideally placed for the first or last night of your holiday in France.
The Grounds: Outside, the grounds consist of lawns, several acres of woodland and a lake. Some of the trees in the woodlands are well over 200 years old and more than 100 feet high. There are numerous pathways through the woods and a leisurely stroll round the property takes about 30 minutes. In summer the large aviary is filled with budgies and other varieties. On the lake are lots of ducks - ever grateful to be fed! For the more energetic, there is a rowing boat and 2-seater canoe on the small lake and a couple of adult-size bicycles on which to peddle off and explore the immediate surroundings. There is plenty of car parking space in front of the Chateau. There is also a large Weber barbecue, lots of garden furniture and endless different places to put it, depending on whether you are a sun-seeker or prefer some dappled shade.
There is also a manege - a horse-schooling ring - used occasionally by neighbours with horses.
Leisure Activities: There is much to see and do in and around the area, especially for those interested in the history of the Great Wars or the Battle of Agincourt. From March to September there are numerous 'brocantes' each weekend - like carboot sales, minus the muddy fields!
Saint-Omer is a delightful town with many shops, restaurants and places of interest to visit. Boat-hire is available at Clairmarais to explore the Audomarois, a network of small rural canals. Bikes can also be hired there. The local Aeroclub offers flights over the Audomarois. L'enVol, the excellent small restaurant, situated on the edge of the historic WW1 airfield, is a firm favourite. Paris is 2.5 hours by car, the Belgian border only 30 minutes away. The beaches of Wimereux and Cap Blanc Nez are 45 mins distant. Closer to home, Linda is a qualified Holistic Aromatherapist with a dedicated treatment room in the Chateau. Ask us about our Murder Mystery weekends - an opportunity to dress up and find out 'whodunnit'!
