Notes: There is no smoking in the main house. If visitors have to smoke, they are asked to confine their smoking to the conservatory room, and to make sure that the room is aired. I prefer not to let to parties of young people under the age of 25, (unless they can convince me that they are responsible adults!). There is ample parking for cars and boats on the drive. it is possible to open both doors of the garage to drive round the back of the house and park two cars there as well. There is a charge for fuel used - people use such varying amounts, and in a house this size it can mount up in the winter months if visitors are not careful. The meters are read before your stay, and at the end, and the oil and electricity is charged out to you at the rate I pay. An allowance of £10 is made for electricity.

Glorious cottage in superb position

Review Submitted: February 18, 2010 Date of Stay: June 2009
We and our families wanted to celebrate our parents' ruby wedding by all being together for a week last summer. We were 14 of us with all our children and found Afallon the most wonderful choice of house. It has incredible views over the bay, and a fantastic enclosed garden for the children to play outside. We could walk directly from the house to the beach, or along the headland, so we hardly needed the car at all, once we were there. The accommodation is extremely comfortable with lots of different spaces for different needs: the teenagers could play table tennis in the games room, the younger ones watch TV in the playroom, and we grown-ups could sip our wine in the lovely conservatory in the evening sunshine looking out over the sea. The furnishings are very comfortable and the kitchen is equipped with everything you could need - even a magimix! I would recommend this house to families wanting to holiday all together, but needing a bit of space at times as well. It really worked for us. I recommend it unreservedly.

Wonderful weekend gettaway from London

Review Submitted: January 6, 2010 Date of Stay: January 2009
Four girlfriends and I were looking for a weekend getaway to escape London. We wanted something cosy and comfortable but with all the mod cons and with plenty to keep us occupied. Somewhere we could relax and read a good book in front of a fire, go for long walks, chat over endless cups of tea and enjoy a good bottle of wine over supper.

Afallon was perfect! It was everything we wanted for our break but we left wishing we had more time to explore the area and relax in front of the fire.

The photographs really do not do the house or location justice. The house sits on the top of the cliff overlooking Aberdaron bay - on a sunny morning it was wonderful to wake up to uninterrupted, panoramic views of the bay. The house has the best of both worlds, as not only do you feel like you are completely removed from the hustle of daily life, but you can easily walk down the lane to the village where there is a spa, post office, pub, coffee shop, and of course the beach. I would say that you do really need a car to explore the area and bring some supplies with you. It also means you can drive through Snowdonia National Park en route which is beautiful.

Driving from London for a long weekend, the last thing we wanted was to haul lots of equipment with us and having experienced many holiday lets where, half way through cooking I discover that we only have the most basic of kitchen tools, it was great to find the house so well equipped. I challenge you to find something that is not in that kitchen! It really was like home from home. In addition the house was spotless and well looked after.

The house is spacious but strangely, despite being a smaller group, we did not feel like we were rattling around. The nature of the property means you can utilise only parts of the house, effectively shutting off the second floor. We spent most of our time in the main living room or the dining room, although breakfast in the sun room overlooking the bay is a must! However because the circulation space is generous and there are a number of reception rooms, it's easy to see how a larger group would not be crowded.

The other thing that I found particularly helpful was the information notices in practical places around the house; so if you can’t work something out you won’t have to go and find the manual! The owner is very friendly and helpful, and her family clearly enjoy the house and the area so much themselves that you will find a warm and well loved house to greet you.
