Wonderous Wanney

Review Submitted: October 14, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
We wholeheartedly endorse everything in the four previous reviews.
Blessed with an indian summer, our week in late September at Wanney Cottage was perfect.
Access to Rendle Terrace is through a farm gate into a field of grazing sheep leading to Wanney Cottage. The facilities in the cottage were lovely as Gaby had thought of and provided everything we needed for a very comfortable stay.
The views were stunning at any time of the day from the conservatory and the large garden was appreciated by our dogs.
Thank you Gaby for your warm welcome and the loan of your super cottage. Hope to see you again next year.

A perfect place to stay and relax

Review Submitted: March 27, 2011 Date of Stay: March 2011
Well I normally write a full review on places I have stayed but I would only be repeating the positive reviews left already, what I will say is the cottage is wonderful, fully equipped, quiet, warm and homely.

We arrived to find home made apple pie, which was still warm, with a large dish of whipped cream.......superb.

Gaby was very welcoming and friendly (we didn't get the chance to meet peter) and made us feel like we could ask for anything to make our stay more comfortable.

We enjoyed wonderful walks and wonderful food, there is a lovely butchers and bakers in Bellingham 6 miles away or you can stock up at Tesco and Waitrose in Hexham.

I can't think of anything negative about our stay, it was perfect, thanks for a lovely week Gaby, we hope to see you again soon.

Wanney Cottage

Review Submitted: March 19, 2010 Date of Stay: May 2009
We spent two weeks in June exploring the Northumberland area, our first adventure in the area & before we'd even left we'd re-booked the cottage to return in the October.

The setting of the cottage is just fantabulous. Yes a car is good for exploring further afield, but right on the doorstep are glorious walks. Gaby & Peter are always willing to suggest places to find & give good guidance so you find them.

Gaby & Peter make you feel so welcome, but you never feel like they are in the way. It's been a real pleasure to have met them & we look forward to seeing them again.

The cottage itself is more than perfect, truly no faults or moans to be said about it. It was ready for us ahead of arrival time, Gaby made us feel at home both times by leaving us homemade treats.

The variety of pictures throughout the cottage is lovely, how many pigs will you spot?
Little things like having a hairdryer there & every kitchen utensil you could ever need are what help make it such a special place to stay.
The garden is really nice, how tall will this years sunflowers grow, but our favorite place in the cottage is the sunroom, where you can watch the late sunsets, the leaping lambs & if you are lucky spot a Hare.
The neighbours are all friendly, happy to have a natter.

A highlight for us is watching Gaby shoo the cows away!!

Nearby Hexham has a really good Tesco for all your shopping needs.
Holy Island, Farne Islands, Keilder Forest (excellent for cycling), Cragside, Wallington House & Gardens just a few of the fab places to be discovered & enjoyed.
The Gun Inn Pub just down from the cottage is a very welcoming place just for a drink or a meal.

Pets welcome with prior notice, well there aren't many people who include rats in their pets welcome, Gaby did, even left them some treat bars.

Until now it was only the two of us in the cottage however with our new addition we can't wait to return to use the magical smaller bedroom.

If you have half as good time as we have had there you'll have had a cracking holiday.

Our Happy Place

Review Submitted: March 10, 2010 Date of Stay: April 2009
I can't imagine anywhere more peaceful and enjoyable to spend time than this lovely cottage. It is set in wonderful surroundings, looking out over the Cheviot hills.

The cottage is very well equipped all round, and the kitchen has dishwasher, washing machine, microwave, cooker and every utensil you could wish for, whether you are cooking a simple breakfast or a full scale Sunday lunch.

The owners are friendly and helpful, without being intrusive. They always ask if there is anything needed to make their holiday home better, and they really want to know. It is clearly very important to them to give the best they can to their customers. Gaby has always made a cake or something tasty to welcome us after a long journey.

There are numerous pubs and restaurants within a short drive of Wanney cottage, where the meals have been generous, delicious and by no means overpriced. If you don't feel like driving, there is a pub at the end of the lane, 5 minutes walk away, which is also very friendly and serves nice food.

Bellingham is only a short drive away and it is easy to buy any fresh food there for your stay.

On our visits we have visited, Hadrian's Wall, Alnwick, Kielder Forest, Gateshead, Newcastle, South Shields and numerous other places. On our next visit we may take a day trip into Edinburgh. Whether you want towns and villages, seaside or sprawling, beautiful countryside, you are never very far away from the kind of day you want.

There is a lovely walk from Bellingham to Hares Lynn Waterfall. This is a fairly easy and pretty walk to the stunning waterfall at the end. You need to be mobile, but not necessarily fit to take this walk.

If you don't feel like getting out and about, you are in the right place for a wonderful rest. To wake up every morning to the peace and tranquility, or to sit in the conservatory and watch the birds in the garden and the ever changing colours of the countryside in this beautiful place is the best therapy in the world.

We have visited the cottage four times up to press and we can't wait for our next visit.

Enjoy, I know you will.
