Perfect for nature lovers (ideal for bird-watching and any other activity related to nature), or simply for those who want to rest, go biking or walking along wonderful forest trails. It is also ideal for artists looking for a quiet place to work. Writers, musicians or painters will find a peaceful place here to concentrate.

The Mas de la Llosa is the place for anybody wanting to enjoy one of the very best secret rural and wild places Catalonia has to offer, and yet you are only an hour from the busy beaches of the Costa Brava. Located in the wild mountains of La Albera, it offers you activities related to nature, sport and local traditions, or those related to the beaches. On the estate, you can find the last population of the native Albera cow. Once a year all the individuals are grouped together to carried out sanitary controls. Cowherds, friends and vets come to help and afterwards, a traditional dinner with local fare is offered. Some interesting scientific projects are being carried out on the property: - A butterfly census - Researches of bats - Bird migrations (it is an important crossing point over the Pyrenees) - Study of the native Spanish river crab - Researches of the native breed of cow. Some courses and workshops are organized during the year (dancing, yoga, Tai Chi, etc).

    We will contact you for details on how to find El Mas de La Llosa. For those with no 4x4 car, we can pick you up at the entrance of the estate (where you can leave your car safely) and bring you to the house.

    There are some farm products on sale (our own oil, produce from the kitchen garden depending on the season, marmalades, pacharan, a local alcoholic drink...etc). Bread and basic supplies can be brought from the village almost every day; we can arrange this.

The Mas de la Llosa is an old stable renovated into a warm mountain cottage. Immersed in the wild Alberes Mountains that form the Alberes Natural Park, it is one of three renovated houses located in the same large estate called Baussitges. Although just 30 km away from the busy Costa Brava, this wild place has remained a secret. Here you can discover the beautiful wilderness of the forests and the calm of the mountains. The nearest village is Espolla, 10 km away. There are 6 km of asphalt road before taking 4km of track for 4x4 vehicles only. Only authorized cars can go into the estate so the absence of the noisy traffic and people in the surroundings is just one of the advantages of being so isolated. In Espolla, you can find a few food stores and restaurants. The Park’s information centre is also in this village. The house has been renovated following the local style.

Inside there is one double room with an open fire for heating and a triple mezzanine bedroom which opens onto the living room. In the open plan kitchen/dinning room-living room there is another fire for heating. The shower-room and toilet is next to the living room. By conserving the old, thick walls, this house is easy to heat in winter yet remains cool in summer. Electricity is provided by energy saving solar panels and as a result, electrical appliances are not recommended. This is also the reason that microwaves, washing machines etc. are not provided. Water comes directly from a spring. For most of the year, there are no shortages however in summer great care should be taken to reduce waste to a minimum. The front of the house has a terrace where it is possible to take a pleasant al fresco breakfast or supper and nearby there is another large terrace with barbecue and stone table. From both you have wonderful views of the mountains.
