Just returned from our fourth trip to Cape Verde and it just gets better every time! We took my Mother in Law this time (74), who requires the aid of a walking stick to get around and wheelchair assistance at the airport. The airport assistance was wonderful and she found Santa Maria very easy to get around. The locals were very helpful and extremely respectful of her. Both the climate and relaxation did her the world of good and she has informed us she will be coming to Cape Verde with us again in the New Year.
This was the first time that we stayed in this appartment having previously stayed in the neighbouring one. We were extremely pleased with the quality and position and found that every possible item we required was provided. It was clean and spacious and with my Mother-in-Laws mobility needs, this was a great bonus for us.
We were spoilt for choice with the restuarants, our favorite is Atlantis which is on the beach to the side of Turtle Shack. Our new favorite for breakfast has recently opened and is appropriately called RELAX.
We went on the Island tour which cost 36 Euros for a full days trip. This took you to several little fishing villages, Espargos, the blue eye and the salt mine where you can swim/float at your leasure. My Mother-in Law loved this and again our guide found a local to transport her from our airconditioned minibus to salt lake which is down a steep road. The trip also included a three course meal in Espargos and we got to meet some people who were staying in some other hotels/apartments. It was very interesting to hear other peoples views of the Island which mostly seemed to be "idylic". We booked our trip through Barracuda Tours.
Due to the volcanic ash cloud which blighted many holiday makers trips during April, we had to change our flights and apartment booking several times until we could actually get a flight. The assistance and patience of the owner of this property was very welcomed and allowed us to finally take a much needed holiday.
