La Grancho is a substantial 5 bedroomed house, decorated, furnished and equipped to the highest standards to provide comfortable self catering accommodation for up to 12 people. Thick stone walls and tiled floors keep the interior cool during the hot summers. Generous room sizes add to the overall impression of light and space. Outside with over seven acres you have space to spare. The pool area is totally secluded. The 10m x 5m pool has semi-circular steps for easy access and paddling and fully complies with current French safety laws. The purification/filtration system uses salt instead of chlorine so will not sting eyes or cause skin irritation. Regular cleaning of the pool is carried out by the owners who live nearby. Overlooking the pool is an informal sitting area shaded by mature trees; just beyond is the table tennis area.
The nearest village is Lherm - small but very picturesque. It has a bar, which sells bread and serves light meals. The nearest town is Prayssac, which is about 10 minutes by car. It has two supermarkets, many small shops, butchers, bakers etc., banks, restaurants, bars and a cinema. There is a very popular and colourful market every Friday morning. During the summer months there are many outdoor activities. Almost every village has at least one fête or festival. There are outside meals with dancing, candlelit processions and firework displays on the banks of the River Lot. The area is rich in history with plenty to see and do. Picturesque villages and Romanesque churches abound. The historic city of Cahors, with the narrow streets of its medieval quarter, built within a loop of the River Lot, is about 25 kms to the southeast. Spanning the river is the famous 14th century fortified Pont Valentré. The cathedral was built in the 11th century and has magnificent Gothic cloisters.
The popular tourist sights of Chateau Bonaguil, St. Cirq Lapopie, Sarlat, Rocamadour and the pre-historic caves of Pech Merle are an easy drive away. The nearby villages of Catus, Cazals and Frayssinet le Gelat have lakes offering swimming, pedaloes, bicycle hire etc. The River Lot, at Castelfranc, is ten minutes by car. Canoeing is available on both the Lot and Dordogne Rivers. There are numerous tennis courts nearby, the nearest at Goujounac - 3 kms.
Golf is becoming much more popular in France. A brand new 9 hole course - Le Neuf du Bouysset - has just opened in Saint Martin le Redon which is about 20 minutes drive. There are 3 more golf courses within about an hours drive - Golf des Roucous (9 holes), Golf de Montal (9 holes), Saint-Cere and Souillac Country Club (18 holes).
There are many excellent restaurants. Regional specialities include duck, foie gras, cepes and truffles. The Cahors wine is excellent and there are numerous vineyards offering tastings.
