Time does not seem to pass in the Alpujarra. Today you still see workers with their mules working the land and harvesting their almonds and olives. Their traditions are embedded in the deepest part of their souls and they take great pride in working the land. The beauty of the mountains, the sun that always shines, contact with nature, and the kind, generous people all make this district a favourite one to live in.
Traditions that go back to the Moors are still present in the gastronomy of the towns. “Tapas” are still a custom that is given to the client when indulging on a cold pint of beer or glass of wine.
Nature walks, scenic drives, horseback riding, skiing, enjoying the sea and sun are of many activities one can enjoy while living in this area.
You have the best of both worlds here, the winter months are still very mild, however, just 30 minutes drive up the mountains the cross country skiing of Puerto de la Ragua can be found. This is mainly visited by Spanish families with their children, who all enjoy either sledging or skiing through the pine trees. No need to take ski’s or sledge as these are all available to hire. There is also a Bar / Restaurant which serves either beer, coffees, baguette or stew on it’s terrace over looking the fantastic views of the mountain.
During the milder months the apartment has either a log fire or central heating, making it very cosy indeed!
