January 2009
We have arrived safely back into Melbourne yesterday having had a wonderful time in UK, Jamaica and San Francisco. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in The Round House. The property itself was excellent and Rupert was very good - always available but never intrusive. We tended to use The Round House as a base as we did a lot of exploring - we racked up 1200kms in 7 days! The highlight of the trip was Mystic Mountain in Ocho Rios with the bob sled and Zip lining through the trees. Our 16 year old son enjoyed the adrenaline rush. Dunne's Waterfall seemed a trifle tame in comparison and we were glad we did it first!
Black River and YS Falls were good (more ziplining at the YS Falls - old hands by this stage!!) and we should have spent longer at YS Falls. The direct road from YS Falls to Montego Bay was a tad treacherous and it may have been safer to travel on the main roads through Negril.
Rick's Café and Negril were our starting point and a good introduction into Jamaica although we spent more time in Montego Bay. We enjoyed lobster at Pier 1 and spent a few hours at Doctor's Cave. Perhaps the only disappointment was not being able to find a sandy beach outside of official bathing places. Rosehall and the Annie Palmer legend intrigued us and we got a flavour of what it was like working on a sugar plantation with such a landowner! The rums at the end helped calm the spirits! Alex, our 16 year old and I did quad biking at Sandy Bay on the final day and thoroughly enjoyed the experience of biking through the hills. Whilst Jamaica is obviously a developing country we were very impressed with how friendly and safety conscious everyone is. We were very glad that we decided not to stay in a resort as we would not have enjoyed all the experiences of Jamaican life if we had been cocooned inside the walls of a resort.

Many thanks for organising The Round House and if we are ever passing through Jamaica again we would love to stay again. Warm regards Denton.
