Deal is an excellent place for a relaxing holiday, especially for those who like walking along the coast. It is possible to walk along the coastal path from Deal to Dover or to Ramsgate. There are numerous excellent golf courses nearby including Sandwich where the British Open was held in 2003, Kingsdown, ideal for less ambitious golfers, or pay and play courses near Ramsgate. Other sporting activities available are horse riding, fishing from the pier, fishing from fishing boats, sailing and windsurfing. Deal itself is well known for its historic places of interest such as Deal Castle (founded by Henry VIII) and Walmer Castle, both of which are a walk away from the cottage and well worth visiting. Deal is also a good centre for making excursions into Kent. Canterbury, Sandwich, Ramsgate, Margate and Dover are all within easy reach.
