Walking (from the door!) including along the famous Crinan Canal and hillwalking, e.g. to Castle Dounie or the Crinan Hill Walk, both excellent walks to enjoy the wonderful views.
Mountain biking (forrest tracks). Sailing and other water sports on Loch Crinan. Crinan Ferry beach, a beautiful sandy beach (5 miles). Gemini Cruises to nearby Islands.
Many nearby islands are in easy reach on a day trip via car and ferry, including Gigha, Mull (where the real Balamory can be found), Easdale, Arran and Islay.
The area is rich in local history. Kilmartin Museum (6 miles) has an excellent display of this, hands on activities for children, and an attractive conservatory restaurant/coffee shop.
Other wet weather activities include the Mid-Argyll Swimming pool and sports centre in Lochgilphead (7 miles).
National Trust gardens: Crarae and Arduine are within a 30 minute driveand are particularly spectacular in Spring/early Summer.
