3 Detached cottages of style and character, set well apart. Beautiful site with heated pool, open May 23rd to 12th September. Bed linen provided free – all beds are made ready for your arrival. Free hot water, central-heating, electricity and gas. Sky TV. Your own patio/garden area for barbecues or just sitting and staring! Each of the gites has its own special character. Croquet court 20 x 10, equipment provided. The two acres of La Hallotiere offer a green and attractive, tranquil setting with fruit trees and surrounded by farmland. Lovely views. The undulating, tree-bordered fields, orchards and classic bocage of the area provide a special flavour of the real Normandy. Roads of Manche with very little traffic allow easy access in under 20 minutes: zoos and theme parks, 2nd world war sites, golf, lakes and fishing. Local towns take pride in their bakeries and special street markets. Within 1 hour: Mont St Michel, St Malo old town, Caen, the coast with wonderful sandy beaches.

A charming two-bedroomed cottage / gite, built in the colombage (wooden framed) style. Colour TV (Sky), DVD player and CD. It has an original Norman firespace of stone with open fire and there are exposed beams downstairs. There is a kitchen/diner with pine table and chairs. The kitchen has a electric cooker, washing machine, dishwasher, cafetiere, microwave, toaster and all you could want (except the chef!) If there is anything you would like which is not there, please tell us. Upstairs, the master bedroom has a king-size bed and the second bedroom has a double and a single. The bathroom has bath with shower over, sink and low-level flush WC. There is an extra downstairs loo and wash basin.

Within half an hour: Villedieu les Poeles famous for copper, brass and making church bells. Vire a market town famous for its special sausages. Near Vire is a golf course and fishing lake. Brecey ten minutes from us, Friday market, famed for cider, with supermarket, shops and attractive church. Mortain centre of the German WW2 Counter-attack. Avranches very attractive large town with botanical gardens, churches and good shops. Within one hour of us is Mont St Michel, the second most-visited site in France! Also St Malo with its old and fortified town. In the area are many zoos, theme parks, museums and sites concerning WW2 Normandy landings. From St Malo or Granville (1hr from us), you can take a ferry to the Channel Isles for a day trip, or longer. There are several excellent places to eat within a few minutes of La Hallotiere. These range from stylish restaurants, to very good cafes where you can enjoy a great 4-course dejuner with wine for ten Euros each!

Beaches: Well within an hours drive of wonderful sandy beaches.

Cannot Recommend Highly Enough - Simply Wonderful

For those wanting to escape the city, La Hallotiere and the gite Colombage are just perfect. The property, both inside and out is immaculate. The hosts, Peter and Jenny are wonderfully friendly and helpful.
This was a great base for us to explore Normandy, from the more famous tourist sites such as Mont St Michel and a little further afield, the "landing beaches", to the great little French countryside lanes and villages.
Don't miss the lunch at the little cafe in Reffuville (10mins away). 4 courses of wonderful French village food and hospitality for only E10- each.
Overall, this property and holiday destination is excellent value for money and we have no hesitation in recommending it to anyone who wants to get away from the hustle and bustle of the city with all the comforts of home.

Wonderful quiet location

If you want a holiday where you can get away from it all, but still have all the major Normandy attractions within 1 - 1.5 hours drive, then this is the ideal place to stay (e.g. Mont St Michel, Bayeux, D-Day Landing Beaches, Falaise, Avranches, etc).
The Colombage is a detached gite/cottage with it's own fenced garden. The views from the gite and garden are magnificent - across rolling fields and hills. The heated pool in the grounds is superb - and allows you to swim even if the air temperature is a little chilly!

The cottage was beautifully clean when we arrived and the owners - Peter and Jenny were extremely welcoming and helpful. The kitchen is very well equiped and provides everything that you could need for a great stay if you want to eat in.
If you ever struggle to find a place where you can guarantee a good/quiet nights sleep, then this is the perfect location - you simply can not hear anything at night.
We would strongly recommend the Colombage and think it is a great place to get away from it all. We only wish we had booked longer than a week.

Having spent a week in Colombage with my husband and two children, aged 10 and 13, I can happily report it as being one of the most relaxing and enjoyable holidays ever. The accommodation was spotlessly clean on arrival and equipped to a very high standard. The surrounding garden was spacious yet provided much appreciated peace and privacy. The planting areas within the gardens were particularly pretty and clearly tended with great care, thought and attention. Peter and Jenny could not have been more helpful and generous with their time and energies in terms of providing useful information with regard to the property and the local area. I would highly recommend Colombage to anyone who enjoys charm, quality and a something just a wee bit special.

These 3 gites are set in lovely grounds. The property we stayed in was extremely clean and well maintained. Peter and Jenny who own the gites are lovely hosts who live in a gite within the grounds which is slightly set away from the other gites, but they are on hand if required. The layout of the gites enables you to enjoy either full privacy or to socialise with the other guests or hosts as you choose. The pool was warm and well maintained. I would thoroughly recommend any of these 3 gites. Fully deserving of 5 stars. We had a lovely holiday.

Family Holiday at Colombage, La Hallotiere

My family and I stayed in the Colombage gite for the first week of June '09. It is without doubt one of the best holidays we have ever had. The weather was gorgeous, so we were able to make full use of the pool and garden, but the cottage had every home comfort we could have asked for, including English Sky TV and a dishwasher (so better than home actually!).
Peter and Jenny were great hosts; we knew they were on hand should we have any questions, but they made us feel as though the cottage was our home for the week and they left us to our own devices. In fact, although we bumped into our neighbours once or twice, it felt like we had the place to ourselves as the properties are all very well positioned and completely separate. We always had the pool to ourselves too.
The area is a great base for exploring, although we didn't venture far, being happy to sit in the garden (enclosed, so perfect for our toddler) and take the odd trip out to a local market or town for lunch.
It was just idyllic and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a holiday here.
