Grosmont is a pretty village in the heart of countryside walks. It is part of the famous Esk Valley Walk and on the route taken by the Coast-to-Coast walkers. The picturesque River Esk, famous for its salmon and trout fishing, winds through the village. It is home to the North Yorkshire Moors Railway Society with museums and attractive eating areas. Steams trains go from Grosmont to Pickering and Whitby. Local attractions, such as classic car rallies and the War Weekend in October are very popular. Horseriding is available nearby at Patridge Nest Farm. There is a Coop in the village which sells groceries and newspapers, plus a cafe which sells pottery and paintings. A shop and cafe are also on the lively railway station.
Whitby, 6 miles away, is famous for it's Abbey which dates back to 600 AD and the many historic churches and houses which enrich the area. It is the most novelised town in Britain from Bram Stoker to AS Byatt.
