La Petite Longere is a single storey ground floor gite for couples with magnificent views across a valley to the forest beyond; its large barbecue terrace is a wonderful spot to watch the sun go down. The beautiful ancient stone longhouse is accessed through a traditional wide Breton arch which opens into a double height hall with exposed gnarled oak beams, that reveal some the structure of this sympathetically restored property, which now provides extremely comfortable and spacious, year round accommodation. The immediate area is particularly suited to cyclists, walkers, anglers and birdwatchers. It is equally appealing to those who enjoy meandering around small medieval towns, browsing markets for fresh produce or Breton crafts and sampling the delights of the local restaurants and creperies. Located near the village of Plessala, the area offers many options for sight seeing, sport, touring or relaxing; it is easily accessible from Brittany's airports and the western channel ports.

La Fontaine Rouillee is a lovely spot for a holiday, in a friendly rural area that makes it just so easy to relax and forget all the pressures of everyday life. The central Breton town of Loudeac is just 10 minutes drive with direct access to the major routes crossing the region making any destination easily accessible for guests wishing to explore other parts of Brittany. Plessala the local village is in an extremely scenic location and has a weekly market, a creperie, individual shops and a trout lake, surrounded by a small park where local festivals are celebrated with fireworks. Walking and cycling routes circle the commune, which the Tour de France recently passed through. Its situation on the River Lie means Plessala is a focal point for Anglers visiting the region and just 3km down-river kayaks and all terrain bikes can be hired, while in the nearby forest pony trekking is available and the rural location means there is an abundance of birdlife rarely seen in built up areas.

Notes: The ground floor apartment of this ancient longere is available for couples only. It is an ideal touring base, somewhere to relax completely, watch the wildlife by day and the stars at night and is near to local sports facilities for the more energetic. When an apartment booking is agreed the first floor is not available for rent, so there is no noise disturbance from above or any sharing of facilities. The owners home is next door and has separate entrance and garden area. Please note that although the longere has level access and an extra wide front door making it suitable for guests wishing to avoid stairs, and we have welcomed several (very contented) guests stay who use folding wheelchairs to make their lives easier, the gite does not have any specific disabled facilities.

La Petite Longere has been carefully renovated to create a charming, level, ground floor apartment for couples; with a large rear terrace opening onto a paddock with wide ranging views. The arched entrance opens into a spacious hall with under-stair laundry area. To the left is an open plan kitchen with a sunny window seat, it is comprehensively equipped to cater for up to six. Right of the hall is a large dual aspect living room with generous dining area; there is TV with UK free-to-air channels, DVD, well stocked bookcase, boardgames, comfy sofas and coffee table. The room also has an efficient wood burning stove, an electric panel heater and French doors leading from the seating area directly out onto the rear terrace. To the rear of the apartment are a modern shower room and an attractive double bedroom with more French doors. The setting is perfect for barbecues, relaxing with a book and drink, watching the bird life, sketching the scenery or strolling beside the nearby river.

For the more energetic there are marked cycling & rambling trails and trout fishing along the river, with pony trekking through the forest or kayaking down river also available. La Fontaine Rouillee is close to the pretty village of Plessala which has a lake, supermarket, bank, bars and a creperie. Nearby several bustling market towns offer a range of good quality restaurants, a variety of historic sites, traditional fetes, brocantes and farmers markets. There are two large inland lakes with beaches, swimming, water sports and fishing; or just half an hour away are the beautiful north coast beaches with sandy coves, clear water & wonderful fish restaurants. Several scenic golf courses are also within easy reach, as is the historic city of Dinan; providing plenty of options for everyone to enjoy a relaxing but fulfilling holiday here. The English owners live next door & are happy to assist guests with any queries about their stay in this beautiful, friendly area of Brittany.

What a find!

We both really needed a break from the rat race and we found it here, do as much or a little as you want, restaurants, walks, cycling, site seeing, or just relaxing with a book and a bottle of the local cider looking at the fab views and listening to the local wildlife. Penny and Ray were really great, including local knowledge and recommendations for us. thanks once again.

As dour northern folk I feel we ought to complain bitterly that your great longere and the two weeks we had in it left us with nothing to complain about!
Enjoyed every day, sadly not enough of them, the sun did its thing by lunchtime every day and couldn't have asked for more from the location.

Spring sunshine, friendly villages, great gite!

Lots to see and do and so easy to reach the list of places we had decided to visit during our fortnight in Brittany and the roads are just so quiet. We chose the longere as it was about half way in between the rose granite coast, the standing stones at carnac and Rennes where we arrived by train from Paris after our long flight, collected our hire car and followed the excellent directions Penny supplied to arrive at Fontain Rouillee. It was wonderful to find local cider, bread, pate and fruit waiting for us and we were pleased to discover our choice of gite had been spot on, clean, bright, warm, homely, very tranqil and plenty of space. It was a thrill to be staying in a building with history in its very walls and to find this lovely gite where we didn't have to climb the stairs after a day on our feet was excellent. It did everything it says on the tin. We saw all the things we had planned to and more, there is a very interesting French Resistance museum about an hour away really worth a visit as is the little town of Moncontour which is nearby it is all so old and so well kept, we just have nothing like this in Australia. Vive la France!
