From our Visitor Book:

So glad I found your details. The Fisherman's Hyde is not only comfortable, surprisingly spacious and full of character, but it is also so conveniently situated for everything.

We have not stopped all week, sandcastles on the beach, visiting the seals at Blakeney Point, putting at the Cliff Side Green, climbing the lighthouse at Happisburgh, crabbing on Cromer Pier, and cycling around Kelling Heath!!

I have never stayed in such a well equipped cottage. It made our stay very comfortable and relaxing.

The McDonald Family

We haven't self-catered for at least 12 years but will certainly be starting again. The cottage location was great and so well equipped. Used the buses for all our trips, if only we had such good service at home. They were so frequent and reliable. We spent an interesting hour in ' The Mo ', enjoyed a humorous Saturday night in The Little Theatre and took a ride on the steam train.

Thanks for the cream tea.

Wonderful cottage

Review Submitted: September 22, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
We had an absolutely wonderful time in the cottage, the cottage is so well equipped with everything you could possibly want and more - we were just amazed by it. The cottage was absolutely incredibly spotless, the beds were really comfy, we were 2 people staying and made full use of the whole cottage as we were attending the 1940s weekend and needed all the space for our 1940s outfits. The scones and clotted cream on arrival were a lovely touch after a long drive. Everything was faultless and we would recommend this cottage to everyone, and would definately wish to book it again if we return to Sheringham.

Perfect getaway: home from home

Review Submitted: September 15, 2011 Date of Stay: September 2011
What a clean and charming cottage this is, but even better because of its lovely sea views. Thank you for the gift of the scrumptious cream tea and the gingerbread for our little girl.

The cottage had everything we needed and is in such a good location, it couldn't have been more central. Sammie and us throughly enjoyed the beach while Granny and Grandpa explored the town and local museums. We all loved the steam train ride.

We had read the stairs were steep but that did not prevent my elderly mum from using the shower in the top bedroom ensuite!

We were not bored during the one day of bad weather, the avid book collection and boardgames were entertaining.

Thank you, and we would love to visit here again.

Nice property, shame about a couple of things

Review Submitted: September 14, 2011 Date of Stay: August 2011
The cottage is lovely and the owner couldn't be more helpful, even took the time to send us a leaflet on the local parking for my parents.

The downsides:

Firstly some instructions booklets would have been useful, no instructions for the heating and nothing for the tumble dryer, after using the washing machine we tried to use the tumble dryer and after 5 attempts the washing was still wet.

The biggest downside was the noise, one of the nearby pubs was extremely noisey with music and people shouting in the street until gone 2 am, in addition to this there is a one way street out the front of the cottage, this was used as a race track by boy racers who shot up this throughout the night with their music blaring.

Had I known the level of noise I would not have booked this property, a lovely cottage ruined by this.

Not suitable for elderly due to the steep stairs and not for young families due to the loud noise.

Owner's Response: Thank you for your review and saying our cottage is lovely. We find that all our guests have found it so and it is in such an ideal location, so close to all the amenities, shops and sandy beach.

With regard to having some instruction booklets at the cottage ; there is a folder (checked once a month) with several instruction booklets including the heating although the washing machine/dryer is missing. We are going to test the dryer to see if it may be broken. We think that the washing machine should be easy to use and if difficulties arise there is a laundrette within walking distance that is fully equipped for washing and drying. The cottage provides a large laundry bag too in the cupboard.

We have set the heating to come on during the day at various times and there are buttons to give boosts when needed. This is set for Winter and Summer so that guests are never cold. There are thermostatic radiator valves so that temperatures of individual rooms can also be adjusted. There is also the benefit of an electric fire in the lounge if it was chilly.

The stairs are in accordance to a property of that age and the steepness of the stairs to the first floor are clearly mentioned in the brochure. Many elderly guests have coped ably with both sets of stairs and they both have good hand rails.

We were sorry to hear about the noise coming from a nearby pub and road.

You can see that from reading other reviews we have received many positive comments.

Our priority is to provide a welcoming and comfortable stay for couples, families and people of all ages.

Comfortable cottage

Review Submitted: July 19, 2011 Date of Stay: July 2011
Pros
Very well equipped, especially the kitchen, the owner has obviously thought of everything.
Clean and comfortable - a home from home!
Very convenient for shops and beach.
Parking space opposite a bonus.
Plenty of space and facilities, especially having two bathrooms.

Cons
Very steep, narrow stairs - unsuitable for very young children and anyone less than mobile.
Main con - while we knew the property was behind a pub, so expected some noise, we were not prepared for the level of disturbance. Two nights it was after 2am before it quietened down and it was intimidating to hear foul language and fights going on.
Recommended for:  Tourists without a Car
Owner's Response: Thank you for your feedback.

We are ever so sorry to hear about the disturbance you experienced at the cottage. We have contacted the pub directly and the local council in the hopes that the stay of future guests will not be disturbed.

We take great pride in making our guests stay, very comfortable and enjoyable.
