Photos and Description of this Scottish Highlands & Islands holiday cottage

Ordhill Cottage. Black Isle, Inverness 5 miles away. Sleeps 4 - Pets are Welcome - Log Fire - Aga, more than just a cooker. Ordhill Cottage a traditional stone built cottage in a truly splendid position, on its own in the forest just a few miles north of Loch Ness with Inverness just across the Firth. A typical Scottish country home in a forest clearing at the end of Ordhill forest track guarantees you peace and tranquility. All the forest birds and creatures are right outside your door, you simply have to look out of the window to see the wildlife. Should you wish to go for a walk there are numerous forest paths leading straight from the door. All this makes it hard to believe that you are so close to Inverness and its amenities. The large beautifully secluded garden grounds are securely fenced to keep your pets safe. The forest is used for orienteering, but also has many waymarked footpaths on your doorstep. You will have unlimited scope for birdwatching and walking.

However, if your idea of a Scottish holiday is to get away from it all, unwind or take the dog for a walk, then this is the right place for you. Or if you want to sit by the shore at sunset then Ordhill Cottage is certainly the place for you. Walking tracks round the forest are at your doorstep but if you wish to go further afield then the mountains and glens of the Highlands are all just a short drive away. Fishing permits are available in Inverness for the river Ness and other areas. Golf courses are also to be found at Inverness and Nairn. Winter Sports of course are to be found at Aviemore in the Cairngorms about 30 minutes drive away. Aviemore is also worth a visit in the summer months. If you want to go monster spotting then the home of Nessie is not far away at all. Loch Ness is a spectacularly beautiful and haunting loch, best seen early morning or at dusk.

Further details for this holiday cottage rental in Scottish Highlands & Islands, United Kingdom

Ordhill Cottage is very tastefully furnished and decorated country style with a welcoming log fire in the sitting room. The farmhouse kitchen with the Aga stove and cosy dining area provides a very warm intimate atmosphere for enjoying those wonderful meals that you will cook on the Aga! There are two double bedrooms upstairs, continuing the country theme with country style decor and furnishings, the coombed ceilings give added character. Other features: Oil fired central heating, double glazing throughout. Pets are welcome, the garden is securely fenced. Bed linen, Electricity, and a bag of logs are included in the price. Bathroom with a bath, there is an unlimited supply of hot water from the Aga! - Cooking by Aga, supplemented by a gas hob. We have fed Red Kites in the garden during winter, they nest very close by so they are regularly seen in the garden area. Fox, Deer, Pine Martin, Red Squirrels and an endless variety of wild birds.

If you set food out for them you're sure to attract many varieties. There are Shops , Pubs and a Post Office at North Kessock just 2 miles walk through the forest. The Moray Firth is spanned at North Kessock by the Kessock Bridge. The A9 crosses here. You can see Dolphins most days either from the shore or the dizzy heights of the bridge. There is a Dolphin and Seal observation centre above the village where you can even listen to them by underwater microphones. It is also a Red Kite centre with a camera set up for nest viewing. If you like to walk either alone or with your pets then there is an endless web of forest paths and tracks, marked and unmarked for your pleasure. The forest is a very peaceful place to be in and even inside the cottage you will feel this. The fishing villages of the Black Isle are very picturesque and well worth a visit - especially Cromarty which is very pretty.

All the beauty of Loch Ness is just a short drive away and both sides of the Loch are worth visiting.
