Nestled betwixt the Severn & The Wye, neither Welsh nor quite English. An understated area of outstanding natural beauty, largely undiscovered by the masses – The Forest remains a playground whether your interest is industrial heritage, wildlife or outdoor pursuits – its got something for everyone.

Bookings can be made for a weekend (Friday 2pm until Monday 10 am), mid-week (2 pm Monday to 10 am Friday) or for the whole week (Saturday 2pm until the following Saturday morning 10am). Weekend or mid-week breaks set at 50% of the seasonal weekly rate.

Staying in the Forest: The ancient Forest of Dean – historically an industrial area which was founded in Roman times for iron-ore mining, sometimes being described as the “Sheffield of the South”. This however resulted in the large-scale decimation of the ancient forest, only to be replanted in the 1700s for planned future ship-building.

As former royal hunting grounds (still officially The Royal Forest of Dean), the area was extensively mined for coal in the 18th & early 19th centuries with industry in decline in the 20th century. The Forest of Dean is formally designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

With great access to birds, wildlife, canoeing, caving, cycling, walking or simply stunning countryside.

GREAT HOLIDAY

Had a great time, nice bungalow well equipped,superb location with fantastic hosts next door. Ideal for our dog with the forest on the doorstep,we even spotted wild boars on our treks through it. A good few pubs nearby and The Forge does a great curry. Would suit mountain bikers walkers or folk who just want to chill. Also recommend Symonds Yat (4 miles away) for canoeing.
This bungalow is one I would say you could go to and enjoy any time of the year.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Adventure Seekers, Sightseeing, Families with Teenagers

Good adress, good welcome

The property was clean and spacious. The owners were friendly.
The description squared with the house.
Not easy to find and a little beat far from South Wales and Bath.
Good to visit Wye valley.
Recommended for:  Adventure Seekers, Families with Teenagers, Families with Young Children

Lovely,warm and welcoming!

We had a brilliant time in the forest, and the cottage was a lovely base to explore from. Maurice and Margaret are so welcoming, they couldn't be lovelier and really made our holiday.

The cottage is very close to cycle trails and the FoD railway, as well as Symonds Yat and other attractions, but I would say a car is essential. For the adventurous type, we recommend canoeing down the Wye!

The property is well equipt, with a spacious garden and parking space, with a large playing field opposite with a play park and a farm literally on the back door step! It was well maintained and comfortable, and we found we had everything we needed in it. The nearest shop is in the village, but car is needed for supermarkets.

I recommend the property, and thank you to Maurice and Margaret for a great holiday; we will definitely be back!

Warm Welcome

What a lovely couple. You could not ask for a warmer welcome. The Bungalow was in an ideal spot for visiting the forest and surrounding area.

Clean and tidy in a quite location.
Recommended for:  Age 55+, Pet-friendly, Girls Getaway, Families with Young Children, People with Disabilities
