Photos and Description of this Plessala holiday cottage Breton longhouse for up to 6 guests, with 3 bedrooms and 3 shower rooms.

Situated above the River Lie, La Vieille Longere has magnificent views across the valley to a forest beyond; its large barbecue terrace is a wonderful spot to watch the sun go down. The beautiful ancient stone longhouse, which sleeps 6, is accessed through a traditional wide Breton arch which opens into a double height hall with exposed gnarled oak beams, that reveal some the structure of this sympathetically restored property which now provides extremely comfortable, spacious, year round accommodation. The immediate area is particularly suited to cyclists, walkers, anglers and birdwatchers. It is equally appealing to those who enjoy meandering around small medieval towns, browsing markets for fresh produce or Breton crafts and sampling the delights of the local restaurants and creperies. Located near the village of Plessala, the area offers many options for sight seeing, sport, touring or relaxing; it is easily accessible from Brittany's airports and the western channel ports.

La Fontaine Rouillee is a lovely spot for a holiday, in a friendly rural area that makes it just so easy to relax and forget all the pressures of everyday life. With the central Breton town of Loudeac just 10 minutes drive away, there is easy access to the major routes crossing the region making any destination accessible for guests wishing to explore other parts of Brittany. Plessala our local village is in an extremely scenic location and has a weekly market, a trout lake surrounded by a small park where local festivals are celebrated with fireworks, a creperie and a selection of small shops. Walking and cycling routes circle the commune, which the Tour de France recently passed through. Its situation on the River Lie also means Plessala is a focal point for Anglers visiting the region; while just 3km down-river kayaks and all terrain bikes can be hired and nearby in Loudeac Forest accompanied pony treks are organised.

Notes: Bookings from families with well behaved children of 10 plus are welcomed, but this property is really not suitable for families with younger children as it has a galleried landing and unenclosed boundaries. The layout is ideal for groups of adult friends or older families as there is a spacious communal living area and each of the bedrooms has its own shower room for added privacy. The ground floor bedroom and adjacent shower room provide an ideal solution for guests wishing to avoid stairs and we have welcomed several guests who use folding wheelchairs to make their lives easier; but please note there are no specific disabled facilities. A separate secure storage area is available for guests to keep cycles, golf clubs, walking boots etc in.

The Perfect Base for exploring Brittany

The Kenward Clan Scotland
Review Submitted: November 11, 2009 Date of Stay: July 2007
Very comfortable and clean holiday home and the perfect base for exploring Brittany. Some of our discoveries were:
Zooparc at Tregomeur ~ good day out for all the family
Cobac Parc near Lanheln ~ roller coaster, wet rides, swimming pool etc
Binic ~ nice little harbour town with variety of restaurants, bars etc, beach with seawater pool
Val-Andre ~ best beach we found, big, sandy and lots of places to eat in centre ville
Guerledan ~ inland beach, swimming in the lake, pedalos, canoeing, fishing
Moncontour ~ well worth a look around and good place for meals, try the medieval rstaurant
Guingamp ~ a good town day out, wide range of shops, bars and sightseeing
St Brieuc ~ the largest shopping centre we found, stock up on cheap wine at the hypermarket
Le Vau Blanc ~ make a point of visiting this bakery, a pleasant walk or short drive from the longere to buy the most delicious bread you have ever tasted.
Thank you Penny & Ray for providing the perfect base for our fortnight's holiday we hope to come again sometime.

Very good.

Review Submitted: November 2, 2009 Date of Stay: June 2008
Thanks for letting us stay in your longere. The location is marvelous and we really enjoyed our stay. Kayaking was especially enjoyable and I'd recommend anyone to do it. We had delicious food at La Mulette at Moncontour (which offer a very wide range of muscle dishes) and also found the medieval restaurant rather entertaining. We would love to return again soon.

Walking Group Review

Alastair & Adele Brighton
Review Submitted: September 16, 2009 Date of Stay: April 2009
These are ideal gites for walkers or cyclists. Starting from Fontaine Rouillee there is a delightful walk along country lanes, beside a river and amongst fields and woods - with virtually no cars and the few natives are very friendly! A little further afield there is access to a disused railway path; in late April 2009 a 2km stretch yielded 27 different varieties of wild flowers in bloom including orchids. 15km away the towpath for the Nantes-Brest canal winds through extremely pleasant countryside. The accommodation is immaculate and very comfortable, with pleasant outdoor facilities excellently arranged for enjoying a tranquil barbecue and bottle of the local cider - disturbed only by birdsong.

A lovely week in summer 2009

Jacky S High Wycombe
Review Submitted: September 16, 2009 Date of Stay: August 2009
What a wonderful place to spend a week. The gite was so well equipped, bright and spacious but warm and cozy. We had a marvellous relaxing time.
The location is just so peaceful and beautiful. As well as all the birds we discovered a multitude of butterflies to watch! Great fun.
The area is full of things to do - we even made it to Mont st Michel (but go EARLY to avoid the crowds - well worth it)

Thank you for a wonderful week
