The nearest town of Monsegur has a small well-stocked supermarket, a post office, weekly market, banks and a few bars and restaurants. Monsegur also has a Marche Nocturne (evening market) every Wednesday throughout July and August where one can enjoy local food and wine, and in addition, there is a very popular jazz festival which is held for one weekend at the beginning of July.
Most towns have weekly markets. The Saturday market at Ste. Foy-la-Grande, 12 miles away on the edge of the Dordogne river, is particularly good. The towns of Duras, Eymet and Sauveterre-de-Guyenne are close by.
Situated between the Bordeaux, Bergerac and Duras wine appellations, there are some wonderful wines to sample, and both St. Emilion and Bergerac can be reached easily within 40 minutes. Bordeaux remains a city of wine and with its 18th century architecture is well worth a visit. It is a lively place and has an excellent tram service.
Arcachon on the coast is a two hour drive.
